The Ayurvedic plant, Indian senna, is used for its ability to improve water absorption. It is superior to hyaluronic acid in regenerative properties. Another new trend to hit the skin care market is the use of a unique complex of ingredients that are more effective on a cellular level to repair the skin. Damage to DNA creates premature aging and susceptibility to skin cancer. In order to provide proper Star Ingredients protection, an antioxidant must be able to penetrate the damaged areas to protect against oxidation within the nucleus of the cell. Water (and) Phoenix dactylifera (date) extract (and) Punica granatum (pomegranate) extract (and) Fragaria chiloensis (strawberry) fruit extract is a new complex that has been shown to protect proteins from oxidation as well as scavenge superoxide more effectively than pure vitamin C, and E. Pomegranate fruit contains anthocyanins and ellagitannis and demonstrates three times more antioxidant activity than green tea and red wine! Anthocyanins, present in strawberry extract, inhibit oxidation in cell walls and are a strong free radical scavenger. The powerful combination of extracts provides superior broad spectrum antioxidant protection and is featured in our Cellular Repair Face Crème. The new face crème contains the complex as well as key minerals that boost the activity of natural antioxidant enzymes present in the skin. Beta Endorphin stimulating skin and body care. Oooh, so good One of the new trends in skincare is the use of specific botanical extracts that promote beta endorphin production in the skin. Scientists have long associated beta endorphins as mood-elevating compounds but only recently has this phenomenon been examined in relation to the skin system. Physical and emotional stimuli induce the release of neurotransmitters which are substances that convey information between skin and brain. Such interactions play a role in skin homeostasis as well as skin disorders. For example, a stressful situation may induce the release of neurotransmitters that affect hormone production, thus resulting in a hormonal imbalance that worsens acne or other skin disorders. Conversely, neurotransmitters that release b -endorphins provide wellness and pleasure and quantitatively improve skin appearance. In addition to these benefits, b-endorphins accelerate skin regeneration and wound healing. Prima Fleur Botanicals has included Rhodiola rosea (roseroot) extract in the new Nighttime Enzyme Refining Gel. This extract contains powerful active compounds that increase b-endorphins and thereby promotes anti stress activity in the skin. You will also find roseroot as a new addition to our Relaxation Wrap. 1525 East Francisco Blvd Suite 16 San Rafael, CA 94901 T. 415 455 0957 The Source for Nature’s Pure Creations F. 415 455 0956 E: [email protected] ©All Rights Reserved 2007 No part of this article may be used without prior permission from Prima Fleur Botanicals, Inc. ©Author's Copyright and Marianne Griffeth [email protected] Floral Notes Volume 1 Fall2007 Global Garden The Euro is hitting record highs against the dollar so expect imported essential oils and raw materials to keep increasing in price. At the same time, you might still come out ahead if you think, “EXPORT.” U.S. finished products are in high demand overseas. Certain resources such as ylang ylang from Madagascar and Bulgarian rose continue to be scarce in supply but luckily we have secured our position in the market with our treasured distillers in these countries. Contact us for samples of the 2007 distillations of Organic Bulgarian Lavender and Rose essential oils which are now available. Packaging Innovations We just attended the HBA Expo in New York and saw some great packaging products that go along with our mission to “go green” and use more conscionable materials. We particularly liked: n HUB Labels for biodegradable inks & label materials www.hublabels.com n Impressions Packaging Corp. for their PCR (post consumer resins) PET bottles as well as the thick wall construction of the same material www.impressionspackaging.com CCL Industries They have a large selection of packaging options in PCR and printing methods to make this transition smooth. With a tube, container & label division they are equipped to handle your varied needs. www.cclind.com n Jeanne Rose Speaks Good Sleeping with Lemon Verbena© VERBENA ALOYSIA TRIPHYLLA (Lippia citriodora Kunth. syn. Verbena triphylla L’Herit.) General Information — This scent is strongly citrus with a floral note and a woody finish. The oil is expensive and often other oils are substituted for it. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-viral. The tea is helpful for sleeping, the hydrosol when sprayed on the face, can help to keep you awake on a long drive. Name — Verbena means sacred boughs and plants used medicinally; Aloysia is after Maria Louise, the Princess of Parma who died in 1819 and triphylla means leaves in whorls of threes. Sleeping Potion — You can make a tea of Lemon Verbena herb for sleeping or take a teaspoon of the hydrosol in a cup of warm water before bed. When to Distill — Distill the leaves before flowering, discard the heavier stems. During or after flowering, citral is reduced while other components are increased. Use of the Essential Oil — This essential oil is a powerful anti-inflammatory, fever reducer and sedative. It is generally inhaled for stress, insomnia, depression, and nervous fatigue and to help during an asthmatic crisis. Strongly anti-viral, it is applied directly to a cold sore to reduce pain and symptoms. Did You Know High-end amenity programs are being implemented in many destination resorts and hotels at the 4 & 5 star levels. These once considered basic room necessities can drive substantial retail and spa sales when offered in that same high quality in all areas of the property. Prima Fleur specializes in making formulas that reflect the unique signature of each location. The continuity of these features is also brought together in the retail and spa products……ask us how! Blending for body and face care products can be tricky. Always test a small amount of your blend in an unscented base first. Generally, 1% of a blend is safe for body. Less is more for the face. Depending on the oils used, approximately .25-.5% is plenty. 1525 East Francisco Blvd Suite 16 San Rafael, CA 94901 T. 415 455 0957 F. 415 455 0956 E: [email protected] ©All Rights Reserved 2007 No part of this article may be used without prior permission from Prima Fleur Botanicals, Inc. ©Author's Copyright and Marianne Griffeth [email protected]
