BIMC ‘s Policy # 7006 Recruitment & Staffing requires Pre-Employment Drug
Testing of all its employees. The following is a BI policy regarding House Officer
Compliance with Institutional Policy on Pre-Employment Drug Testing
The Purpose:
To outline time requirements for compliance with Institutional policy on PreEmployment Drug Testing.
The Goal:
To assure that House Officers comply with the Institutional policy in a timely
fashion to enable the House Officer to be hired by the Institution and available for
participation in training programs.

2. All potential House Officers must submit specimen, as required by the
Institutional policy, within 30 days of receipt of the agreement with Beth Israel
Medical Center.
3. House Officers entering the program off cycle must submit specimen, as
indicated in the Institutional policy, within one week of the date of offer for a
position in a Beth Israel Medical Center training program.
4. If a House Officer has not completed the drug testing within the allotted time
frame, Human Resources will notify the GME Office, who will notify the
appropriate Program Director. The House Officer will have an additional five
days to fulfill the institutional requirements.
5. House Officer applicants that do not fulfill these requirements within the
timeframe outlined above will not be permitted to begin training. The
Institution may notify all appropriate matching agencies of the applicant's
failure to comply with employment requirements and request a waiver from
match obligations.
