Problem Can you taste things without smelling? Hypothesis I think that if you can't smell you will still be able to taste things. Materials In this experiment I will be using these materials: 1.Paper plates 2.A apple 3.A orange 4.A sour piece of candy 5. A small chocolate 6.Paper 7.Pencil 8.Scarf (to cover up their eyes) 9.There hand to cover up their nose. Procedures For my experiment I will be using the steps that Person will be helping me with. Here are some Procedures: Knife 1. Slice the food 2. Put them on the plates 3. Close your eyes then mix up the things where you can't tell wich. 4. Put something on your eyes to cover your eyes 5. Hold your nose and eat each piece 6. Guess which food is wich. 7. Write down what you notice The Results The results that I got from the friends that helped me are they couldn't taste the food at first but then they could taste the foods after a few seconds. Conclusion What I did in this experiment is that I picked some friends and made them see if they can taste or if they can't. What I learned from this project is that some foods you can taste and some foods you can't while holding your nose. I also learned that they make flavor by the neurons in the brain. In conclusion we all have learned that some foods you can taste while holding your nose and sometimes you can't. I had learn so much about my project . Can you Taste without Smelling? Research What Is Taste In this experiment you will learn a few things about taste. Taste is a stimulation through the contact of a certain chemical. Taste occurs when a specific food combines to your taste buds.Taste buds contain 50100 taste cells. Taste cells allow us to use the sense of taste. Taste cells represent all five sensations. Taste and smell are the same because they both use chemicals scenes. At age 3050 people can lose their sense of taste. There are four flavors bitter, sour, salty and sweet. Some foods are a mixture over more than sweet, bitter, salty and sour. In a average person’s mouth there are 10,000 taste buds. Different parts of the tongue are sensitive to certain flavor. Our sense of taste, is very complex. We cannot enjoy all of the flavors in our world, if we don’t have taste. You will be learning about losing smell and other facts. Our sense smell can warn us because when there is a fire you can smell the fire. If we lose our sense of smell it would cause a negative effect on our quality of life. When you smell tiny pieces of scent travel up your nose. The scents goes to the top into a two special areas. Nerves can send messages from there to the brain, telling it about the smell. The receptors can distinguish up to 10,000 different kinds of smell. When you inhale air through your nostrils the air enters the nostrils the air travels into your nasal cavity. Smell can help you in many different ways. Relationship In this experiment you will be learning the relationship between taste and smell. Some of the facts that you will be learning are where they both connect in the brain and how they give flavor. If you lose taste or smell you probably wouldn't be able to taste or smell. Taste and smell are related because they connect to the neuron in the brain. The neuron in the brain helps them give taste because it send a message to the other side of the brain. You have learned about the relationship between taste and smell. Like where taste and smell connect in the brain and what would happen when you lose taste or smell.
