Our school celebrated the diverse cultural backgrounds within our school. It was so pleasing to see family members experience the variety of food from different cultures. Food from the Middle East, Europe, Asia and traditional Australian food was shared by all. With plenty of food and an overwhelming response from families’ plates, cutlery, tables and chairs were at a premium. A big thank you to our students who entertained us with songs from around the world your singing and actions were a highlight of the night. Special thank you to Ms da Silva, Mr Daly, Mrs Delacoe, Mrs Quinn and Ms Michelle for organising such a great evening. One of the activities that the students participated in was Story Telling with Serena. Serena read some funny stories and was fantastic at using different voices for the characters! Serena also showed the students her puppet which she used to retell the story of ‘The Old Woman who Swallowed a Fly’. The other activity was Book Making with Kevin. Kevin first showed the students an art gallery. It had original artwork used for the illustrations in various picture story books. Kevin then ran a drawing workshop and allowed the students to practise their skills by making their own picture story book. Below are some of the things that the students wrote about the day: I made a book. Joseph Serena showed us the old woman puppet. Saja My favourite part was drawing. Jackson SOCCER GALA DAY REPORT On the 24th of May thirty-four grade 3/4 students from Westbreen Primary School attended the 5-a-side soccer gala day. We took a bus to Wallace Reserve, the home of the North City Wolves. We were the first school to arrive. When we got off the bus we saw huge green fields with lots of soccer nets already set up. We were greeted by some students from Ceda who told us how the day was going to run. There were five schools attending the soccer day including us; they were Roxborough Park, Thomastown, Fawkner and St Pauls. The Ceda students told us that we needed three mixed teams and two girls’ teams instead of three girls’ teams and two boys’ teams. We quickly rearranged our teams and lined up ready to play. The Ceda students told us who we would be playing against, they told us all to have a good time and support each other. The teams were called out and we followed our referees to the soccer pitches. We all played five exciting but tiring games. One of the highlights of the day was seeing so many goals being kicked. Almost every Westbreen player scored a goal. Another highlight was our fantastic teamwork. All the teams worked really well together and had a strong defence as well as offence. We all cheered for each other and supported our team mates. There were a few special competitions throughout the day. There was a juggling competition which Sinan, Hatice, Elias, Hadi and Emily took part in. Everyone did really well, Sinan and Elias came first and second. Another competition was a penalty shootout which Mahmoud, Matisse and Laura competed in. Le-Grand and Fadila took part in a fun game against the Ceda students at the end. LeGrand scored a goal and did a lap of honour. At the end of the day we all received a soccer ball. We had a fabulous day. Thank you to Miss A., Miss Bianca, Miss Ann and Miss Adria for looking after us on the day. The 3/4 Soccer teams LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL On the 22nd of May 8 students from Westbreen Primary School were chosen to see Legally Blonde the musical. It was a fantastic opportunity and I am sure all of us made the most of it. I personally loved the people were dressed so funky and stylish. I was surprised that the performers could all remember what they had to say. At the end of the day I think all of us enjoyed Legally Blonde the Musical. I would like to say thank you to Mrs Delacoe for organising the excursion for us.
