News from the President, Nancy Wilberding
As I sit here, I can’t help but admire the beautiful snowfall that has
covered every inch of landscape. You can’t help but give praise to
God for His many blessings.
The many poinsettias delivered to the Little Sisters helped to fill
the Chapel and hallways of the Home with colorful Christmas cheer.
Thanks to all of you who responded to the e blast. The Chapel looks
incredible.
The Christmas Party planned by Lorita Doucette and Debbie Holton was a great success. The residents and staff and volunteers
were entertained by Rex Rund and members of Our Lady of Mount
Carmel Choir whose spirited singing was enjoyed by all. Santa (Paul
Weaver) and his elf (PJ) visited each resident and presented them
with a gift. No one leaves to go back to their room until Santa pays
them a visit. Thanks, Lorita and Debbie for a great afternoon.
One of the residents favorites is the Twelve Days of Christmas.
They look forward to the surprises they find each morning in their
red envelope on their door. Thanks to Mary Ann Van Note, Marlene
Buttrum, and all their little “Elves” for providing the fun for the residents
Please join us, at the St. Augustine Home, February 4th for a 9:30
Guild coffee meeting followed by an 11:00 Mass for Deceased Guild
members and relatives of members. Thanks to Peggy Trier and
Louise Collet for chairing this special day. Come join us to honor
those who have gone before us and are enjoying life with Christ.
There has been a change in the location of the March 2nd coffee
meeting. Nancy Wilberding will be hosting the meeting as Sara
Einterz will be leaving the guild for awhile to care for her Parents.
We will look forward to her return. See inside for instructions to my
home.
March 16th is the Day of Reflection at the St Augustine Home from
9am-2:30p.m. planned by MaryAnn Van Note and Jill Garvey.
Here we are at the beginning of a new year and it’s time to think
Hats Off To Spring. Committee chairs are meeting and planning a
wonderful day. Many have volunteered to help but, we need everyone to participate to make this year even better than last year. The
Little Sisters and residents will benefit from our efforts. Let’s all
work together for a great Hats Off To Spring Luncheon and Style
Show to be held May 4th, 2016.
May God’s Light shine upon each of you and bless you with a wonderful New Year.

And Now a Little History About the
St. Augustine Guild….
“February Coffees”
February coffees have been the traditional calendar year start of activities for the Guild since
shortly after it began. In the early days these
were reported in the society sections of the
Indianapolis Star and News. On Feb. 4, 1969,
Marilyn Shapiro’s column remarked on a coffee
at the home of Mrs. Charles Gleason (even supplying her address!) that would focus on a new
sewing project for the Guild. Members were
requested to donate items of clothing, or men’s
old suits, that could be altered to “perk up” the
wardrobe of current residents. Six members of
the Guild were listed as diligently working the
sewing machines in the ensuing weeks. Later
on the purpose of that project would be realized
in the windows of The Little Shop that we see
today on the first floor of the Home.
In the following years, the meeting turned its
sartorial focus to the upcoming fashion show,
which was held in March through 1982. As that
event grew, the date was moved to April, and
then to May, while the February coffee found its
agenda growing in tandem. This year is no exception, as plans are afoot to make the May 4
luncheon another fantastic fundraiser for our
beloved Little Sisters!
A BIG Thank You!!
A big "Thank You" to the 12 Elves, Guild
Members, who participated in "The 12
Days of Christmas". It is always so rewarding to see the anticipation and excitement on the residents faces as they
check their red felt envelopes each
day. We received so many thank you's
from everyone for our thoughtfulness in
remembering them each of the 12 days.
Marlene Buttrum and I sincerely appreciate your willingness to participate in this
program.
Happy New Year everyone!
