Your product can be submitted on paper or electronically.
Do not get so caught up in the creative look of your project that you neglect to
thoroughly address the tasks/questions.
Please consult with a parent/guardian prior to downloading, purchasing, or creating an
account for any app or program.
All responses should be grammatically correct. Please double-check punctuation,
spelling, and capitalization.
This assignment will be your first graded assessment in language arts for the first
semester.
When: Your project is due Friday, August 12 at the beginning of your language arts class period.
Your language arts teacher will give you instructions telling you how to submit any electronic work.
After you have read your book, please address each of the tasks/questions below.
What message or lesson about life might the author have been trying to teach the reader
through this book? Support your response with examples from the text and explanations.
Cite an important quote from the book, including the page number. Explain the quote’s
significance.
Include 3 objects/symbols that best represent your book. Label them and explain how each
symbol is a representation of the book.
Describe one decision made by the main character/person in the book. How did that
decision impact the course of the story?
Were you satisfied or dissatisfied with the book overall? (Please go beyond responses such as
“It was boring”, “It was exciting”, etc. Be specific; what specifically made you satisfied or
dissatisfied?)

Summer Reading Assignment: Rubric
For each task/question of the Summer Reading Assignment, you will be graded on a scale of 0-4.
4: Question/Task was fully addressed and accurate. Evidence and explanations were thorough and precise.
3: Question/Task was adequately addressed and accurate. Minimal errors or issues with clarity may be present.
Evidence and explanations were adequate.
2: Question/Task was addressed. There may be some errors, lack of clarity, or need for further evidence and
explanation.
1: Question/Task was minimally addressed. There may be frequent errors, lack of clarity, and little to no
evidence and explanation.
0: Question/Task was not addressed or attempted OR the response was completely inaccurate OR so much
