This new musical, adapted from the 1997 classic animated movie, is based on the legend
of the Russian royal family. It’s a romantic and inspiring story of a courageous young woman,
who may or may not be the Russian czar’s youngest daughter, who escapes the night her
family is killed and then attempts to learn the mystery of her past while trying to survive in a
changing world. Her adventures take her from the Russian Empire to 1920s Paris.
ANASTASIA reunites the multi-Tony Award® winning creative team of Ragtime: book writer
Terrence McNally, composer Stephen Flaherty and lyricist Lynn Ahrens. The production
incorporates favorite songs from the movie, including their Oscar-nominated Journey to the
Past, with a completely new score and new characters not seen in the film. Tony winner
Darko Tresnjak (A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder) directs.
