JASMINE LUDLOW
A Christmas Story
‘Twas the night of Christmas and all were asleep apart from George. He
was 4 years old and his favourite time of year was Christmas because he
liked to see everyone so happy! What he didn’t know was that Christmas
would not be happening unless he lent a hand to Santa!
George sat on the window-sill, his brown eyes twinkling like mad. Then
he felt like someone was watching him. He turned around to see a little
elf sitting on his bed! “You must follow me!” it squeaked urgently,
tugging at his sleeve. George got up and followed the elf thinking it was
all a dream but then the elf jumped out of the window tugging George
with him! Then they ……

Christmas Lights Everywhere
Immortal creature discovered
The Richards family from Australia
have put 502,165 Christmas lights on
their house to decorate it.
Mr
Richards said he started to put the
lights up on his house at the
beginning of October. He is going to
charge visitors to look at his house,
and the money raised will go to a
children’s charity. Next year, he plans
to put even more lights up, but will
need to buy a generator to get more
electricity to turn them on!
Scientist from Denmark claim that a
kind of freshwater ‘polyp’ is
practically immortal. Which means it
never dies.
It is the only creature in the world to
not be affected by the ‘ageing
process’. Researchers say they found
that mammals and birds weaken with
age, but others like tortoises and
certain trees get stronger as they get
older!
The Hydra Magnipapillata, which is
microscopic and has a tube-like body
with tentacles, can live up to 1,400
years.

SPOOKY NEWS:
In a museum in Manchester, it seems
that an Egyptian Mummy has come
back to life and has been turning on
its bottom. Investigators discovered,
after a week of spying on the
Mummy, that it was caused by
passing cars and the vibrating of
people’s footsteps.
Why was your tomb the only tomb
not to be robbed? Scientists think
that my tomb was covered by flash
floods, so no one knew it was there
until Howard Carter discovered me in
1922.

HIEROGLYPHS
There are over 700 hieroglyhics in the Ancient Egyptian alphabet!
There were no vowels. So: ‘Egyptians are cool’ would be written as: ‘Gyptns r cl’!
Hieroglyphics could be written in both directions - right to left or left to right: very
confusing!
The Rosetta Stone, which is in the British Museum in London, was discovered by
the French in 1799, and helped crack the hieroglyphs code.

A BRIEF HISTORY
St Thomas More
Sir Thomas More, Lord Chancellor to Henry VIII and Catholic martyr, came to
Chelsea in 1520 and built a house, later known as Beaufort House. In More’s day,
two courtyards were laid out between the house and the river, and in the north of
the site acres of gardens and orchards were planted. It was from here, in 1535,
that More was taken to the Tower and beheaded later that year. Beaufort House
was demolished in 1740 and in 1766 Beaufort Street was built on part of the site.

Kensington Palace
Royalty comes to Kensington
Nottingham House, which is now Kensington Palace, was purchased in 1689 by
William III as a small country house where he could breathe clean air free of the
smoke and dirt of London. However it was too small, so the King commissioned
Christopher Wren to enlarge and rebuild the house, turning it into a fitting royal
residence. With the King came many court officials, servants and followers.
Kensington Square, until then a failing venture, became a popular residential area.
The Palace was regularly used by reigning monarchs until 1760 and since then by
members of the Royal family. Queen Victoria was born there in 1819 and it was
her home until her accession in 1837.

PACHACUTI
Pachacuti was an Incan lord,
He fought in the jungles of Mexico,
Other tribes dreaded him,
That totally broke the cord!
Suddenly a tornado hit,
That pushed Pachacuti into a pit!
It gobbled up the hut roofs,
You could hear the clatter of hooves,
Running along the road,
A MATHEMATICAL PUZZLE:
Just like a big, fat toad!
15.
At last Pachacuti scrambled out of the hole,
THE MAGIC SQUARE
A bit smellier than a mole!
Fill in the spaces using all the
numbers from 1 to 9 so that each
line, diagonally, horizontally and
vertically add up 15.
Then a wild wind walloped down the lane,
So Pachacuti shouted: “Champagne!”
The two forces decided to have a celebration
But one dude heard a cow go MOO!
And that started another fight!

STARRY, STARRY NIGHT
Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colours on the snowy linen land.
