Small Group Homework
For the week of April 28, 2013
QUICK REVIEW: Looking back at your notes from this week’s
teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention,
challenged or confused you?
MY STORY
1. This week in our series on difficult people we are considering the
wayward child. In order to be a wayward child you have to have been
raised to follow God and then turned away from that teaching. In your
home growing up what was the religious or moral instruction like?
□
□
□
□
□
We never talked about God or morality – we had to figure it
out on our own.
We talked about it some, but it wasn’t emphasized
Verse 10 states the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
The fear of the Lord is respect for God. How can this lead to
wisdom?
How does verse 7 apply to the wayward child? Have you
experienced something like this?
In verse 17 Folly gives her message and verse 18 tells the rest of
the story. Why is stolen water so sweet? What is the temptation?
2. Read Proverbs 19:18-19. These verses apply directly to the
wayward person. How is there hope in discipline? What does it
mean to be a willing party to his death?
We talked about frequently
We talked about it too much, could never get away from it.
Other :
Verse 19 tells us not to rescue someone from the penalty of their
actions. Have you ever experienced rescuing someone over and
over from the same problem that their actions caused? If so, what
was that like?
2. Were you or one of your siblings a wayward child? If so, in what
way?
How can it be loving someone to let them suffer the
consequences of poor decisions? How does God do this to us?
In what way does God rescue us?
DIGGING DEEPER
1. The book of Proverbs has a lot to say about making wise choices.
It often contrasts people who are wise and those who are foolish. In
Proverbs 8 and 9 wisdom is portrayed as a woman who makes choice
meals for those who will listen. Folly is also depicted as a woman, but
she offers stolen goods and those who partake soon die. Read
Proverbs 9:1-18 and answer these questions.
3. Is there some area in your life that you need to apply some of these
principals? Is this something you can share with the small group so
they can help you?
