Homestead Road Widening Project
From south of Sunrise Boulevard to north of Alabama Road

Construction Begins!
The Lee County Department of Transportation (LC DOT)
and their contractor, Stevens and Layton, Inc., will begin
construction at the end of March to widen Homestead Road
to four lanes from south of Sunrise Boulevard to north of
Alabama Road. This work will also add lighting, improve
drainage and install new underground utilities.
What to expect during construction
The contractor will begin clearing on the south end of the
project and move north. Crews will then install new water
lines, force main and drainage structures. The widening
portion will begin after underground utilities are completed
and crews will work from the south end of the project to the
north to build the roadway. The contractor will maintain both
directions of traffic. Motorists should expect lane closures
during daytime hours. Local area residents and businesses
will have access at all times during construction.

Roadway Design
The new road design for Homestead Road is shown below. From south of Sunrise Boulevard to Pinewood Boulevard is
a four-lane divided highway with two 11-foot travel lanes in each direction (see Segment 1). From Pinewood Boulevard
to north of Alabama Road is a five-lane highway with two 11-foot travel lanes in each direction and a 12-foot directional
center turn lane (see Segment 2). Four-foot on-road bicycle lanes are included in the widening. A six-foot sidewalk will be
constructed on both sides of the roadway.

Homestead Road Widening Project
The Lee County Department of Transportation is holding a
public information meeting and a groundbreaking ceremony
for the Homestead Road Widening Project. The public
information meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 15,
2017 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Veterans Community Park
multipurpose room. Come anytime between 4:30-6:30 p.m.
to view plans for the construction project. The Lee County
project team will be available to answer questions and take
comments about the project. The groundbreaking ceremony
will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the
north entrance of the Veterans Community Park. If you would
