The winners were announced in assembly this afternoon and they all received a prize of an Easter egg. We would like to say a big thank you to all our helpers who come into school and listen to readers, work with groups of children in class and provide transport and support at our sports events. Thank you all for your continued support and friendship. We hope you have a good break and an enjoyable Easter. School re-opens on Tuesday 18 April 2017. Lifesaving defibrillator at Calstock Primary School British Heart Foundation and Calstock to give cardiac arrest victims a fighting chance of survival As published in the last newsletter Calstock Primary School now has a public access defibrillator (PAD). The equipment has now been installed and the defibrillator is in a bespoke container at the front of the building on the external wall outside the main office, in clear view to the public. The defibrillator is a portable device that can be used by any member of the public to help restart the heart when someone has a cardiac arrest. The PAD gives systematic voice instructions for its use and can be used on adults and children. If you are interested in attending a CPR session, please email Kaf Bain at [email protected]. This means that Calstock now has 2 PAD (the other is outside the village hall) in the community allowing for quicker accessibility to this vital first aid equipment in different parts of the village. Please make time to familiarise yourself with its location and if you would like to see the equipment please ask Mrs Maunder. Access to it when the school is closed will be via the school field and up the steps. New Lunchtime Menu A new menu is being sent home with your child today, which will start when we return in April. There are lots of new and delicious dishes on this menu so please take a minute to go through it with your child, so they know what to expect next term. We will also be offering the hoagie packed lunch menu when we return in April. This menu has been sent home as well and will be available from the second week back at school. Sports News The end of season netball and football presentations took place this week at Callington Community College. We had a great season this year and came 7 in the football league, in the participation netball league we were runners up and competitive netball league is waiting to be confirmed. In netball we were awarded the respect award in the competitive league, this is for respecting other players and umpires and the honesty award in the participation league for being honest with other players in the games we played. In football we were awarded the self belief award for not giving up when losing a game, and sometimes going on to win. Well done to all the players. Wear It Bright/Red Nose Day Thank you to everyone who donated to our Wear It Bright/Red Nose Day last Friday. We had a sea of red and brightly coloured children in recognition of earth hour and Red Nose Day. We raised £59.80, which has been donated to the Red Nose appeal. Film Night Thank you to everyone who came to our film night on Tuesday 28 March. It was a great success and we raised £100. This money will go to help fund the year 6 residential trip to London. Thank you to the parents and staff, who helped organise and run the evening. Calstock Rowing Club It’s that time of year again and with the clocks going forward the rowing club’s training night has started again. The sessions this year will be on Wednesday evenings, starting at 6pm. All children from year 5 and upwards are welcome to come along but they must have a responsible adult with them. Adults are also welcome to come along if they would be interested in joining the club. This is a great opportunity to get out on the river in a safe and supervised environment. It is a great sport, which is very sociable and good exercise as well.
