Year 7 Newsletter Issue 2

Year 7 Newsletter
Issue 2 – March 2015
Welcome to the second edition of the Year 7 newsletter! Once a term, students will
be issued with a copy of this newsletter, informing students and parents/carers of all
of the last term’s events, happenings and goings-on.
This Term
I’m not quite sure how this term has managed to pass so quickly, it only feels like a
few weeks ago I was frantically wrapping Christmas presents! It is wonderful to see
lots of new friendships forming and watching you all settle into Notley High School &
Braintree Sixth Form more and more. I am in the process of arranging the tutor
groups for Year 8 and I find comfort in knowing that as a year group, you work well
as a team and you are able to support one another in a variety of situations. I was
very proud last week as I peered into the library and saw Year 7 students on the
interview panel for the new Headteacher; I only hope that they told them how
wonderful their Year Leader is! We will soon be selecting some students to visit local
primary schools as part of our transition programme…..I can’t believe you will soon
be Year 8s!
Miss Stanley
The time has flown by. You have now completed your second term here at Notley
High School & Braintree Sixth Form. It only seems like yesterday we were visiting
your primary schools and now you are almost moving up to Year 8. One of the
highlights for me this term was the Impact Day, seeing how much you all enjoyed
yourselves. On your return to school, there were some very tired Year 7s. I hope
you all have a happy Easter and look forward to seeing you at the start of next term.

Throughout the term you may have received a postcard congratulating you on a
good start to Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form or for helping out at school.
Well done to those students who have had a postcard through the letter box and let’s
see how many we can send next term!
Excellent uniform is also another aspect that has been rewarded. All students who
have failed to record a single uniform signature on their uniform cards have received
certificates. Three lucky winners will be pulled from a hat during the final assembly
and receive a £5 Love 2 Shop voucher. Good luck to you all!
Merits
Year 7 students have been competing to see who can achieve the highest amount of
merits throughout this term. Congratulations to 7Y who have managed to collect the
most merits this term! The top students from each tutor group will receive a letter
home, congratulating them on their success. Well done to everyone, keep collecting
your merits for certificates and merit badges!

Impact Day
On 4 March, all Year 7 students went over to the Discovery Centre to take part in a
day of fun team building activities. The students’ behaviour was impeccable and they
got stuck in with the activities, embracing the challenges and not letting the mud get
in the way!
A big thank you to Miss Short for arranging the day and thank you to the staff who
accompanied her and the Year 7s on this successful Impact Day! More photos are
available - http://www.notleyhigh.com/photo-galleries-2013/events/impact-day-year-7
Red Nose Day
On 13 March, we had a non-uniform day and we would like to say thank you to all
students for your kind donations, the grand total was an incredible £1,255.79! This
donation has been sent to Red Nose Day to help a variety of charities
Attendance
Overall attendance: 96.5%
Top tutor group: 7O 
We are monitoring attendance closely and now that spring has arrived and the nasty
coughs and colds are disappearing, I would like to see our attendance improve. Let’s
set ourselves a target of 97.5% by the end of the summer term!

Uniform
Whilst most of our students dress very smartly and follow our Uniform Policy, there
are some students who fail to adhere to the policy on occasion. If you are going to
purchase any new school uniform over the holidays, please check our policy
beforehand http://notleyhigh.com/school-policies/uniform-policy.
Interform
Well done to the sports captains for arranging teams to take part in the interform
events. Well done to 7E who are currently in first place!

Things to look forward to!
Next term will be a busy and enjoyable term! Activities week will be upon us before
we know it so please make sure that trips are paid in full promptly so that tickets can
be finalised before the adventures begin. End of year exams in a variety of subjects
will be taking place so please prepare for this when the time comes. The
parents’/carers’ consultation evening will take place on Thursday 4 June, so please
keep an eye out in May for an email enabling you to book appointment with subject
teachers.
Academic success
Progress checks have recently been sent out and it is great to see that students are
working hard in school and it is pleasing to see the overall progress towards our
target of 2 sub levels of progress in Year 7. We have spoken to all students
regarding their presentation and feedback to teacher target and comments as we
believe that with extra effort in these areas, making progress will become a smoother
and enjoyable journey. It is important that when students return they stay focussed
and engaged with school and home learning to achieve the best that they can!
From myself, Mrs Edge and all of the Year 7 tutors, we wish all students and their
families a wonderful Easter.
Miss Stanley
