May 2011 TOWN OF GILBERT BULK TRASH PICKUP The Town of Gilbert provides residents a monthly bulk trash service allowing people to dispose of bulky items and landscape trimmings conveniently. It is important to remember to follow simple placement standards for the safety of the crew picking up the items such as keeping all bulk trash away from electrical and other utility boxes. Striking an electrical box in particular poses serious risks to the town employees that work hard to keep Gilbert safe and clean. Here are a few guidelines to follow: Place bulk trash on the front edge of your property line or designated pick up area Bulk trash must be at least two feet away from all electrical boxes, cable boxes, water meters, decorative lighting and existing landscape. Piles that are placed in unsafe locations will not be serviced. Avoid placing bulk items on the sidewalk, as the sidewalks must be handicap accessible. Do not place items in the street, which must be clear for traffic and street sweepers. Bulk items should also not be placed in common areas such as the medians. Bulk trash should be placed out no earlier than the weekend immediately before your collection week. The schedule for your neighborhood can be found on the events calendar on the website. In addition to the weekly trash and recycling pickup and the monthly bulk pickup, the Town of Gilbert also has a Hazardous Household Waste facility, and can arrange for appliance pickup. For more information on these or other services, please contact the Town of Gilbert at 480-503-6400 or visit their website at www.gilbertaz.gov/pw/bulktrash. What’s inside! I ordered the carne asada burro which comes with a choice of green or red sauce. I chose the red but asked for it on the side. Kristine and Jake were veterans by this visit; however, both of them tried something new. Kristine ventured away from the home-made hatch chile pork burrito with green sauce and ordered the fry bread with carne asada and instead of Jake’s usual carne asada quesadilla, he ordered a breakfast burrito with chorizo. While waiting for our order, we helped ourselves to the unlimited chips and salsa bar. The chips were fresh, light and crispy and the salsas were mouth-watering. We definitely ate our fair share. Our food arrived quickly, and we dug in. My first bite was amazing! The flavors were abundant and just the right kick to the red sauce. Kristine’s fry bread filled the plate and was covered with carne asada, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. It was so big she had to use a knife and fork. She thought the fry bread was yummy but preferred the pork burrito. Jacob’s only complaint was that the burrito was so good that he ate it too fast. Looks like we found another local favorite! The New Mexican Grill is located at 3107 S. Lindsay Rd. #101 on the northeast corner of Lindsay and Pecos. Drop by the Community office for your buy one, get one free coupon and try it for yourself! SPECTRUM YOUTH ACCEPTED TO AMBASSADOR PROGRAM Elle Anna Chacon, a fifth grade Spectrum Elementary student, was recently accepted to participate as a student leader in the People to People Student Ambassador Program in Australia. This program was founded by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1956 so that people from different cultures can come together in peace and friendship with the hope that, eventually, so will nations. Elle Anna Chacon Potential Ambassadors are nominated by a teacher, require three letters of recommendation and their grades are carefully evaluated before acceptance, so when Elle Anna was selected she was thrilled! She says “I am excited to share my experience with my peers, family and friends. I can earn high school and college credit because of the many educational elements in the program.” She hopes that this experience will increase her understanding of the world , and to learn first hand about new places and cultures so that she can be the best citizen she can be. Congratulations to Elle Anna for such an amazing accomplishment! PAGE 3 SPECTRUM FINANCIAL REPORT Spectrum financials reflect a positive variance of $83,257. This variance is primarily attributed to collecting $19,032 in transfer fees (which exceeds the budget by $8,052), collecting delinquent assessments not only from current owners, but also from former owners who left the community with an outstanding balance. Utilities are also under budget by $25,639. During the month of April, Spectrum welcomed twelve (12) new owners and only one (1) property was foreclosed upon. Our office is currently monitoring 19 payment plans totaling $22,697, of which $11,408 has been collected. Since we initiated the payment plans, 64 Members became current with their assessments and $77,166 was collected.
