Dear Cliff Temple Family,
In August and September we’re moving through the theme of
Church Everyday Everywhere. It’s a call to be the church not just
on Sunday, but throughout all of life. The meaning of the word for
church in the Bible (ekklesia) is the people called out and toward
God. Our mission as an ekklesia is that we are Building Everyday
People Into Everyday Missionaries for Jesus Christ.
An important part of our mission together is the raising up
of leaders who can equip others to live out the gospel everyday,
everywhere. This edition of our monthly publication Everyday is
dedicated to our leadership.
Spiritual leadership differs from other types of leadership
found in government, business, the military and educational
institutions. There is no entity on earth like the church, and
therefore, our leadership will look different from the rest of the world. Spiritual leaders
have a gift from the Holy Spirit in order to help other people connect with God and grow in
the life of God. Worldly forms of leadership focus on success, while spiritual leaders work
toward fruitfulness. Spiritual leaders seek to magnify and multiply the life of God in others,
and to the next generation. They are called to bear fruit that will last. (John 15:16) That
means that their impact is only really seen when others grow.
Paul wrote to the Ephesians that God has appointed “apostles, prophets, evangelists,
shepherds and teachers to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the
Body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the
Son of God...” (Ephesians 4:11-13) Paul also taught the leaders at Ephesus, “Be on guard for
yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to
shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.” (Acts 20:28)
We are only as strong as our leaders, and our leaders are only as strong as they are
spiritually connected to the life of God.
That’s why it’s important to pray for and support our Leadership Council (which is
responsible for the overall shepherding of our congregation), deacons, teachers, volunteers
and staff. Let me encourage you to pause and pray right now for the leaders of our church,
and that God would continue to raise up Godly leaders in days ahead.
It’s an exciting time to be a part of Cliff Temple, as we enjoy newly renovated facilities,
explore new ministry directions and seek to be a blessing to the city of Dallas. But the most
important work we’re doing right now is in the making of disciples. Spiritual leaders are
disciples who make more disciples.
Therefore, anybody and everybody is called to be a spiritual leader. Indeed, that’s the
way that the church has been called out and gifted by the Holy Spirit. We are the church,
everyday, everywhere!
To God be the glory!
In Christ’s love and grace,
Dr. Brent McDougal
New Space, New Schedule, for a New Day
We’re excited to announce a new weekly schedule starting August 28, 2016.
After an extended discernment process, our Leadership Council proposed the below
schedule in June to the church body. Since that time we have held multiple meetings
with deacon leaders, Sunday School teachers/directors and staff to hear
feedback, discuss challenges and prayerfully consider as a church family this decision.
On Sunday, July 31, we hosted a Town Hall Meeting to again hear feedback, and
the discussion was overwhelmingly positive to adopt this new schedule.
We ask for your prayers for our congregation as we launch this new schedule. We want to create a second morning opportunity to engage people in worship and reach
new people in our community.
While the Coram Deo contemporary service has had some success on Sunday evening,
the time of the service has created a limitation on participation. Many people who
prefer a more contemporary style of worship also prefer that it happens during the
regular Sunday morning times. And they certainly want to develop relationships through
small group studies and have learning opportunities for their children.
Here is the new schedule:
Tuesday evening
7:00 - 8:15 p.m. Prayer meeting (a NEW service dedicated specifically for prayers for our
community and ourselves, with a brief time of music and message which leads into an
extended prayer time)
Wednesday evening Cafe opens from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Regular schedule for Agape Cafe, discipleship/missions/music for all ages
Sunday morning
8:30 a.m. Cafe opens; fellowship time around the atrium begins
9:00 - 9:50 a.m. Contemporary Worship
10:00 - 10:50 a.m. Sunday School
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Traditional Worship (English in the sanctuary; Spanish in the
chapel)
If you have any questions or comments, please contact [email protected] or call 214942-8601.
Calling all Super Senior Adults! Join us on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. for a time of activities and
fellowship. We will have games to play or sometimes will help with a fun mission project. Light
refreshments, coffee, and water are provided. Call Marcy or Walter at 214-942-8601 to see what’s coming
up each week. Be sure and bring your friends!
