Stone Age to Iron Age

Science
This half term we will be focusing on our investigating
skills. We will think about asking questions, planning an
investigation and deciding on the best way to record our
findings. Our prior knowledge will help us to make
predictions. This will have a Christmas theme!
Stone Age to Iron Age
Autumn 2 term
English
We will continue to develop the children’s ability to write
descriptively with a focus on correct sentence structure,
punctuation and interesting vocabulary. The children's skills
of persuasion will be linked to the Stone Age theme, thinking
about which would have been the best tools they would have
used. Later on in the term we will be writing letters to Father
Christmas. The children will be reading in a group during
guided reading session with an emphasis on answering
questions that require a degree of inference from the text.
Computing
We will be using our computing skills to enhance our
learning in other areas of the curriculum and developing our
research skills using the internet safely to produce a
power point about an aspect of the children's choice. This
will relate to the stone age.
French
This term the children will learn how to greet each other,
how to answer the register, numbers up to 20 and the
weather.
DT
The children be looking at different types of cardboard
packaging and using these as templates to design their own
nets to make a gift box.
RE
We will be thinking about the meaning of Advent. This will
include investigating the meaning of advent calenders and
wreathes.
PSHE
In P.S.H.E. we will be thinking about the
Park Gate Way, class rules and routines.
We will also think about friendships and
team work , in the class and outside at play.
Music
The children will continue with Listen to
Me. After watching the Seahorses concert,
the Starfish are looking forward to learning
how to play the ukulele.
Reading Rocket Reading Scheme
The Book Bug scheme will continue but it will now
be called ‘Reading Rockets’. Regular reading with
your child is still important in KS2 and we hope
that the reading scheme will encourage them to
earn their stamps. In class, children will be taking part in guided reading sessions and you will
be informed of these objectives via stickers in
Maths
We will be working on place value, ordering numbers,
mental calculation strategies for addition,
subtraction and using money. Understanding how to use
the inverse to check calculations will be a high focus. We
will also be learning about capacity and telling the time,
analogue and digital. Multiplication facts of 2, 5, 3 and 4
will be our mental maths focus.
History
This term, we will focus on Stone Age to Iron Age. The
children’s learning will be enhanced by a trip to SEARCH,
where we are looking forward to a hands on experience!
We will examine life at that time such as where they
lived, what did they do and how they survived. The children will explore different sources to gain information.
We will then look at how things changed during the iron
and bronze age.
Art
This term, we will study Stone Age wall paintings and
the children will be given the opportunity to create their
own. They will make their own stone age brushes, explore
how clay was used and use collage skills to enhance their
learning about Stone Age homes.
PE
In outdoor games we will be learning how to play hockey with a
visiting coach. In indoor PE we will be constructing a gymnastic sequence using different balances and ways of travelling
