ELIGIBILITY
You must be a current ACTIVE, RETIRED or LIFE member of American Choral Directors Association teaching in
IOWA to audition students for the Iowa Opus Honor Choirs. Each member may submit up to twelve singers that
are active in their public and private school choral music programs or church choirs in the state of Iowa.

Singers may not be submitted by ACDA student members. You may join, update or renew memberships at
acda.org
!
DEADLINES
Auditions will be accepted:

Beginning: September 4, 2015
Ending: 11:59pm, September 25, 2015

All audition MP3 recordings must be submitted through the website, opusevent.com
!

TO AUDITION STUDENTS
1. Prepare three SEPARATE MP3 files for each student using these guidelines:
Track 1: Sing an ascending and descending ONE OCTAVE major scale.
Students may choose to use solfège, numbers, or a neutral syllable unaccompanied
(Beginning pitches for each voice part are stated below.)

Soprano: beginning on G (above middle C)
Alto: beginning on D (above middle C)
Tenor: beginning on F (below middle C)

Bass: beginning on A (an octave and a third below middle C)
Track 2: Sing the first verse of "America" (My Country 'tis of Thee) unaccompanied
(Beginning pitches for each voice part are stated below.)
Soprano: beginning on G (above middle C)
Alto: beginning on D (above middle C)

Tenor: beginning on F (below middle C)
Bass: beginning on A (an octave and a third below middle C)
Track 3: Audition excerpt (selected from 2015 Opus literature) unaccompanied.

Tempo: Quarter note = 75-85!

NUTS and BOLTS
• A SEPARATE ENTRY must be submitted for each singer. Each singer must have three
separate tracks.
A LIMIT of 12 singers per ACDA membership
• Use quality recording equipment. Poor equipment can make an excellent voice sound
below average. To avoid possible problems, it is advised to listen to your recording
before you submit. The use of any headphone device, software, or any other filtering
or manipulation of sound to aid in the student’s performance for any piece is strictly
prohibited! Failure to comply will result in disqualification.
• Sing the complete excerpt. Do NOT omit measures for any reason!

• Directors will receive an email notification with students selected for the 2015 Opus
Honor Choir.
(Please note: Notification will ONLY be sent via the submitting member’s ACDA
(not ICDA) primary email. It is each member’s responsibility to ensure correct
membership status and email addresses through the ACDA National office.

• Director notes with specific instructions for the preparation of all Opus selections
will be available online at http://www.iowachoral.org/opus (after Sep. 25) for
students selected for the Opus Honor Choir.
There will be NO director notes available for the audition excerpt.
• Please do not submit students who will be unable to receive music preparation
from their submitting directors following their acceptance.
FINANCIAL OBLIGATION
Students auditioning:
• Audition music
• Audition fee / $2 per student submitted

Students accepted:
• All Honor Choir music (No photocopied music)
• Registration fee of $35 (The registration fee includes a noon meal ticket, button, and
certificate of participation.)
• Transportation to and from the Honor Choir
• Lodging, if needed
!
The Iowa Choral Director’s Association Opus Committee reserves the right to
make final determination of singers’ eligibility for acceptance in the Opus
Honor Choirs. Failure to adhere to all rules by any submitting director may
result in the disqualification of any or all of the director’s students submitted for
consideration.
