the insider
regional organization
As of July 1, Sasol’s holdings in the United States officially become North
American Operations in accordance with Sasol’s new Regional Operating Model.
The new organization is a different approach for Sasol, which usually manages its
reporting structure around business units related to production and sale of certain
products.
For many years, employees connected to the manufacturing facilities in
Southwest Louisiana, Tucson, and our Threadneedle office in Houston have
reported through the O&S (Olefins and Surfactants) business unit, while
employees largely in California have reported into the Wax business unit and
certain employees in Houston have reported through the Solvents business
unit. Additionally, the Merisol company, which is now a full subsidiary of Sasol,
has been reporting to a separate organization as well. While we have shared
some services in North America over the years, such as payroll and information
management, the multiple reporting lines tended to limit synergies and that will
now be addressed with the new organizational structure.
In the new eventual structure, all personnel associated with Operations (including
Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Purchasing, Logistics, Safety, Health and
Environmental, etc.) and Functional Service (such as Information Management,
Finance and Human Resources, etc.) will report into the Sasol North American
Operations with Mike Thomas as our Vice President: US Operations. Services,
which cannot be decoupled from the business units due to world-wide
engagement or market/business focus, such as Planning and Optimization,
Research and Development, Sales and Marketing, Business Development and
Customer Service, etc., will continue to report into the respective business units
they serve while receiving Functional support from the regional organization of
Sasol North American Operations.
sasol celebrates 10
years on the nyse
On April 9, Sasol celebrated its 10
year anniversary of its listing on the
New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
Sasol CEO David Constable and
Sasol’s executive management rang
the closing bell to mark the occasion.
The NYSE listing has made it possible
for Sasol to access the U.S. capital
market, which is the world’s largest,
while growing its profile in this
investment community as a compelling
investment proposition.
health corner
As with any significant organizational change, some employees will be affected
differently than others. Many will only notice a slight change of the company
name on their pay check beginning in 2014, other employees will experience
the changes that are required as a result of mergers and acquisition, which were
already on-going.
Trying to juggle work, family, friends
and household responsibilities can be
challenging. For many of us, there just
doesn’t seem to be enough time in a
day for all that and exercise, too. It’s
time to put your health first.
Tips to fit physical activity into your daily
routine:
• Wake up early.
• Make those chores count.
• Be active while watching TV.
• Involve the whole family.
• Take fitness breaks.
• Put it on the calendar.
• Get social.
• Join a team.
For more ways to get up and get active,
contact our benefits specialist, Jessica
Smith, at [email protected].

happy 4th of july!
Although the new structure takes effect officially on July 1, the transition will
take time. For most employees there will be no change in day-to-day activities.
We will continue to work safely and responsibly to provide low-cost, high-quality
products and services in our areas of responsibility. Over the next several months,
we will be working to align our systems and processes to ensure consistent
understanding and application of policies, reporting structures, communications
and any other changes that need to be made as part of this new organization. The
full transition is expected to take approximately 12 months and should be largely
in place by the time that the final investment decision is reached for the Lake
Charles Chemicals Project in the first half of 2014.
Colleagues, Mekeba Gordon (US Mega
Projects – Houston), Mandy Power (US
Mega Projects – Houston) and Claudia
Wagner (O&S Global Communications),
represented Sasol North America
at Passport DC Around the World
Embassy Tour. The team joined other
South African companies in welcoming
more than 3500 visitors to the South
African Embassy open house.
Sasol was a Gold Sponsor of the Red
White Blue & You event at the Lake
Charles Civic Center. Employees and
the community enjoyed music, food and
a great fireworks show.

This quarter we are
spotlighting Vikki
Bishopp in the
Tucson Customer
Service department.
Vikki has been a
faithful employee
of 14 years and truly loves working at
Sasol. Every day is different from the
next, and she enjoys working with her
team and helping customers.
In 2012, Bryan Babineaux (Laboratory – LCCC) was
diagnosed with lung cancer. He underwent a successful
operation removing the entire middle lobe of his lung and a
three month recovery. At the 2013 Free to Breathe Cancer
Walk, Bryan was recognized as the cancer survivor honoree
and was asked to share his story about the importance of early detection.
Although Vikki is not bilingual, she
has mastered the art of talking to
customers around the world. From
Russia to China, she can decipher what
her customers need and assist them
quickly.
Vikki has been married for 17 years
to her husband, Steve, and has two
children: Alexis (12) and Steven (9).

South African facility and has a plant
in Richmond, CA. We manufacture
wax blends and wax emulsions for
customers all over North America and
some in Asia and South America. Our
wax is used for dozens of applications,
including hot melt adhesives, PVC

zero recordables
Sasol North America is pleased to announce that
we have accomplished a major safety milestone. As
of April 18, all employees achieved two-full-years
of safe work without a single recordable injury.
With all of the new projects, this is truly an amazing
accomplishment. Let’s continue together to be safe
and help ensure the safety of our colleagues. As of
June 30, we reached another milestone, achieving
two full fiscal years without a recordable.

In February Sasol received a letter from a local family commending Joe
Martarona (Ethylene – LCCC). The family stated their financial situation and
their appreciation to Joe for his generosity in making necessary repairs on their
home. On behalf of Sasol, we thank Joe for his selfless gift of his time, being a
role model and a great representative of Sasol in the community! Many of our
employees support their communities and neighbors in similar ways.
Sasol recently donated laboratory glassware and an
automatic titrator to the Lake Charles Boston Academy.

portion of the proceeds
benefitted The Mission
Continues, a non-profit
organization that works with wounded veterans and helps them
get back involved in their communities. The treacherous 3.5 mile
obstacle course was built like a military training course and was
designed to challenge participants to experience a day in the life
of a soldier. Our team experienced running, crawling, jumping,
hanging, balancing and a lot of mud. After finishing in less than 3 hours, our team
enjoyed music, food and great fellowship together.
Kathy Pettit (Finance – LCCC), Steve
Hookanson (SHE – LCCC), Richard
Brink (LCCP – US Mega Projects) and
his wife enjoyed Derby for Dollars at the

economies in Washington, D.C. Mark Schnell participated in a panel discussion
where he spoke about Sasol being a leader in innovation and bringing a GTL
facility to the U.S.

a 5-story tower, hoisting, etc. Proceeds will benefit the Southwest Louisiana
Firefighters Association.
NAMI
Sasol recently donated $11,463 to the National
Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Southwest
Louisiana. The total includes both, Company and
employee donations, with the largest amount
resulting from increased safety observations which
were tied to company donations. NAMI stated
that Sasol’s donation was the largest amount ever
raised by a walk team in their history. Many thanks to the team.
Special Olympics
This year’s Special Olympics participants and volunteers experienced unusual

behavioral based safety
Behavior Based Safety across North America (O.T.T.E.R./
S.T.A.R.R. / P.O.W.E.R.) teamed up for an April observer drive
called Drive for 205. The O.T.T.E.R. Process (LCCC East
Plant), S.T.A.R.R. (LCCC LAB Plant) and P.O.W.E.R. (Tucson
Plant) understand the importance of safety at Sasol and
surpassed their goal with 241 observers.
O.T.T.E.R.
O.T.T.E.R. saw an all-time high of 82 percent participation and
100 percent participation in four areas of their process: NPU/
ETO Unit, Machinist Craft, Ethylene Unit and Steam Plant. The
process had 211 observers and surpassed the previous record
number of observers set last year at 168.
P.O.W.E.R.
In April, the P.O.W.E.R. Steering Team introduced a new
incentive package to encourage more observations.
Employees were divided into the following groups: Operations,
Maintenance Lab, Office Personnel and Management and
Logistics. A free meal will be awarded each quarter to all
personnel in the group that completes the most observations,
provided they complete a minimum of 20 observations each
month. The first meal will be awarded in July.
