The bride-elect is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where she earned a degree in early childhood education. She is currently a teacher at Southlake Christian Academy in Huntersville. A graduate of Greensboro College where he received a degree in physical education, the future groom is presently pursuing a master’s degree in administration from Gardner-Webb University. He is employed as a teacher at Southlake Christian Academy. The wedding is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at Lowcountry Presbyterian Church in Bluffton, S.C. Godair-Zapata The engagement of Kristen Michelle Godair and Marco Antonio Zapata, both of Salisbury, has been announced. Kristen is the daughter of Pastors Bill and Tina Godair of Salisbury and Karen Godair of Mooresville. Marco is the son of Oscar and Dora Zapata of Spencer. A 1998 graduate of Cornerstone Christian Academy in Salisbury, the bride-elect graduated in 2001 from Rowan Cabarrus Community College with an associate’s degree in business administration. Out of state guest traveled from Texas, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Missouri, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina. Born in Mooresville, the bride graduated from Mooresville Senior High School in 1974. She attended Gardner Webb College in Boiling Springs, for two years before transferring to East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. The bride began a career as a special agent with the United States Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Charleston, South Carolina. For the past 18 years she was employed with the Tennessee Valley Authority Office of The Inspector General where she served as a senior special agent in Knoxville and Chattanooga. She is now resident agent-in-charge, Western Region Investigations in Anchorage, Alaska with the United States Department of The Interior Office of Inspec-tor General. The mother of the bride, Patricia Moose Rathbone, former resident of Mooresville, now resides in Tellico Village, Tenn. Grandparents are Henry Daniel, Edna Mae Moose and the late Homer and Cora Etta Rathbone. The groom, born in Evanston, Ill., graduated from Loyola University of Chicago, in Illinois, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He received a Masters of Arts in administration of justice from Webster University, St. Louis, Missouri. The groom's stepmother, Mrs. Robert Van Balen, and his aunt, Mrs. John Van Balen, were remembered with corsages of white roses. Myra Kerley of Maryville, Tenn. presided at the guest register. The couple departed the sanctuary to the James Bond Theme. Following the ceremony, the bride's brother and sisterin-law, Ronald and Jewell Rathbone, hosted a breakfast reception in the church fellowship hall. White cloths covered the tables with vanity mirrors and cream rose petals were strewn down the center of each table. Bubble wands were placed for guests. The bridal party table was covered with a gold and white cloth and centered with gradational gold painted, luster amber hurricanes. A large gold organza bow graced the base of the arrangement. Burgundy and cream rose petals lay the length of the table. A three-tiered red velvet cake with a basket weave, butter cream icing and decorated with ivy was displayed on a round table with white cloth. Complementing the cake was a keepsake alabaster carriage with bride and groom. A framed photo of the bridal couple in a horse drawn white carriage in New York City at Rockefeller Center was displayed indicating when and where the bride received the groom's proposal of marriage. Guests were directed to a buffet of ham biscuits, sausage/egg casserole, grits, biscuits and assorted jellies, fruit/cheese platters, orange/ cranberry juice, coffee and assorted cereals. The bridal couple traveled to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands where they honeymooned at the Frenchman's Reef Resort. Selections included “Always On My Mind” by Nelson; “Have I Told You Lately” by Stewart; “Endless Love” by Richie; “I Will Always Love You” by Parton; “Music Of The Night” by Webber; and “Memory” from Cats by Webber. The mother of the bride was seated during the performance of “I Will Remember You” by McLachlan. She wore a cranberry silk crepe sleeveless formal embellished with bugle beads and sequins. A corsage of burgundy baby roses, berries and white lilies adorned her wrist. Burgundy rhinestones were her choice of jewelry. Matrons of honor were Dawn King “Max” Smith of Kingsport, Tenn.; Debbie Pope “Sister” Webb of Jefferson City, Tenn.; and Sharon Jarvis “Sha” Moss of Gastonia. Goddaughters of the bride, Caroline Elizabeth and Margaret Amelia Webb of Jefferson City, Tenn., served as bridesmaids. Bridal attendants wore cream halter-style formal gowns of silky crepe with gold beading and featured mermaid skirts with brush trains. Each attendant carried a teardrop globe with a votive candle and adorned with a gold sheer fabric bow. The attendant's processional was to the strains of “I Can't Help Falling in Love with You” by Creatore. Soloist Barbara Smith Taylor of Bowie, Md. and member of the United States Air Force Band, sang “How Beautiful” and “The Lord's Prayer” during the marriage ceremony and “Sweet Sweet Spirit” for the benediction. Given in marriage by her brother, Ronald Tracey Rathbone of Sherrills Ford, the bride entered the sanctuary to the flute rendition of the “Tennessee Waltz” performed by matron of honor, Sharon Moss. The bride wore a Mon Cheri gown of gold silk overlay with silk chiffon and embellished with bugle beads and sequins. The fitted bodice featured a halter neckline and mermaid skirt with brush train. A scalloped panel of silk chiffon in a lighting bolt pattern graced the gown from the waist to the hem Her cathedral length veil of gold gossamer was trimmed with a braid of sequins and adorned with beaded appliqué. The veil was attached to a heart shaped gold tiara encrusted with rhinestones. She carried a cascading bouquet of burgundy sweetheart roses, tiger lilies and ivy. For something borrowed, the bride wore her mother's emerald and diamond ring. The church altar was draped with gold gossamer. Angel wings and spiral teardrop globes with lighted votive candles banked the altar. Globes with candles on slender 6' poles marked every other pew, and bows of gossamer adorned each globe and spiraled down the poles. Dressed in black tails with a gold vest, black bow tie and white gloves, the bridegroom chose his brother, Kent R. Van Balen, Chicago, Ill., as his best man.
