OUTLOOK June 2012 Your Financial Reputation... We’re talking about your credit score- the three-digit number that determines your ability to get a home loan, car loan, and a cell phone or even a business loan. How does this number define your financial reputation? It starts with a formula developed by the Fair Isaac Corporation or more commonly known as FICO. What FICO reviews is a summary of all your credit accounts and payment history reported by the three credit-reporting agencies Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. For the most part, the higher your FICO score the more money you can borrow with a lower interest rate. The flip side, the lower your FICO score the less you can borrow with a higher interest rate, therefore, paying less in principal and more on the interest rate. Wouldn’t we all love to borrow money at a lower rate? Of course, and that is why your financial reputation does matter. What’s in your FICO Score? Your FICO Score is calculated from a lot of different credit data in your credit report. This data can be grouped into five categories as outlined. The percentages in the chart reflect how important each of the categories is in determining your FICO score.
