- He warned the civilians that the British were coming to attack us.
2. Frederick Douglass- Civil Rights- from Talbot County, Maryland
- He created the North Star newspaper as well as helping slaves gain their independence.
3. Susan B. Anthony- Women’s Rights- from Adams, Massachusetts
She was a very important in Women’s Suffrage movement. She wanted women to have equal rights (voting…).
4. Mary McLeod Bethune- Education- from Mayesville, South Carolina
- She wanted African Americans to be able to go to school. She started Bethune-Cookman College.
5. Franklin Roosevelt- The New Deal and World War 2- from Hyde Park, New York
-He created The New Deal during the Great Depression, a time when many people lost their jobs. He also led our
county through World War 2.
6. Eleanor Roosevelt- United Nations and Human Rights- from Ney York
- She was married to Franklin Roosevelt and made many speeches and appearances. She created The Declaration of
Human Rights.
7. Thurgood Marshall-Civil Rights-from Baltimore, Maryland
- He won the case Brown vs. Board of Education. This was a court case where Linda Brown’s father wanted her to be able
to go to the school hat was close to her house. He was the first African American Justice to serve in the Supreme
Court.
8. Lyndon B. Johnson-The Great Society and Voting Rights-from Stonewall, Texas
- He became President after JFK was shot. He created The Great Society to help our country become more successful.
9. Cesar Chavez-Workers Rights- from Yuma, Arizona
- He came from a family of migrant workers. As her grew up he noticed that Hispanic workers did not get treated fairly. He
co founded the National Farm Workers Association
