The Tool Lending Closet Are you lacking the tools to complete your home repair or lawn maintenance project? The Tool Lending Closet, located at 300 N. Third Street, is open for eligible residents from April through September on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Housing Rehabilitation Program Neighborhood Betterment’s Housing Rehabilitation Program provides low to no interest loans for low and moderate income citizens, emergency assistance, and zero interest loans with partial or full repayment to homeowners who might otherwise have difficulty making property improvements. This list may serve as a reminder for something you’ve been meaning to do: • • • • • • Remove any rubbish, garbage, brush, or debris around your property. Make sure all vehicles are licensed and operable, remove any auto parts or tires laying around the yard. Do you have appliances or furniture you need to get rid of? Call Waste Management at 1-800583-1144 to make arrangements for a special pickup. If you have recently completed a home improvement project, properly dispose of building materials such as lumber, siding, shingles, etc... After you mow, check to make sure your trees/ shrubs are trimmed and the weeds are under control. Check the exterior of your house for peeling • • • • • • • • • • • paint. Check your foundation for cracks. Replace or repair missing shingles on roof to avoid leaks. Also check the condition of your chimney. Repair or replace any sections of your fence that are weak or in disrepair. Check the safety of your stairs or porch. Do your exterior doors, windows, and screens operate properly or do they need repair? Clean up the yard after your pets. Park your vehicles in the driveway, garage or on the street instead of your yard. Check your shed to see if it is in need of a new coat of paint or a few repairs. Construction signs should be removed when the work is complete. Junk/Inoperable/ Unlicensed Vehicles Unlicensed, inoperable, or junk vehicles create an eyesore in our community. Storing these vehicles is also a violation of City ordinance. Building Inspection and the Police Department monitor our neighborhoods for illegal vehicles.
