My Job - Move On

My Job
Task 1: Talk about your job
Read about Jakob.
My name is Jakob and I’m a joiner. At the moment,
I’m working on a construction site in Leeds. It’s
my job to fit the window frames, floorboards and
doors and any other wood in the building. I’ve been
living in the UK for two years now, and this is the
best job I’ve had since I arrived. The money is really
good, there’s lots of overtime and I get on well with
the people I work with. The only thing I don’t like is
getting up early in the morning! I’d like to see a bit
more of my family, but that’s life.
Can you describe what you do, in same way as Jakob?
Use phrases like:
It’s the best job / the worst job I’ve ever had because . . .
The best thing about this job is . . .
The hardest part of my job is . . .
The thing I don’t like about my job is . . .

Task 2: Using the superlative
In this hot topic you learnt to use the superlative to say what you liked most or least about
your job:
The best thing about my job is working from home.
The worst thing about my job is getting up early.
We also use the superlative with the present perfect tense. Here are some examples:
This is the best job I’ve ever had.
It was the worst company I’ve ever worked for.
The hardest job I’ve ever done was picking potatoes – it was really exhausting.
Complete these sentences with examples of your own, using the present perfect. If possible,
practise using these forms in conversation with a friend.
The best job . . .
The worst job . . .
The most interesting job . . .
The best-paid job . . .

Task 3: Expressing preference
There are several ways to say what you prefer in English:
I’d rather work in an office than work in a shop.
I prefer working with children to working with adults.
Using these models, change these sentences from one form to the other. Try saying them out
loud, or practise them with a friend or colleague.
1.
I prefer working at night to working during the day.

2.
I’d rather have my own business than work for somebody else.
…………………………………………………………………………………………..
3.
