for upper level course.
ADMJ 1447 Special Topics in Policing: Investigating White Supremacy (3): This course will introduce students to the
criminal investigative techniques used by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to disrupt/dismantle White Supremacist
and other White extremist terrorist organizations in the United States.
BIOL 1301 Animal Behavior (3): An advanced study of the mechanisms, development, and functions of animal behaviors. We
review the history of the study of animal behavior, and then examine various approaches to studying behavior, including genetics,
neurobiology and endocrinology. We then look at animal survival mechanisms, like foraging, detecting prey, and using camouflage.
Last, we cover interactions between animals: how they mate, raise their young, communicate, fight, and cooperate.
BIOL 1311 Entomology (4): Insects are the most diverse taxonomic group on the planet. This course will cover the insects and their
close relatives; physiology; external and internal structures; life cycles; classification of insects to order; ecology in the field, forest,
and aquatic habitats; economic and medical importance of orders.
CIST 1415 Data Analytics (3): Data mining seeks to provide the tools for the extraction of timely, strategic, informative, or
previously unknown gems of information. Looking for patterns, statistically sound data correlation/discovery by association and
classification, for example, can unearth knowledge buried within these huge databases.
CIST 1432 Ethical Hacking (3): This course will teach hacking techniques used by malicious parties as a means to learn best defense
from these same people. Topics include: ability to quantitatively assess and measure threats to information assets, perform penetration
tests into secure networks for evaluation purposes, and evaluate effectiveness of security plans designed to protect information assets

current global food crisis, generated through high food prices, food insecurity and climate change. Policy analysis will explore the
debates surrounding Genetically Modified Crops (GMOs), WTO agreements, property rights along with economics of nutrition and
health. GE Economics and Global Competency.
FIN 0250 Special Topics: Money in the Real World (3): Cross-listed with ECON 0111. This course uses a series of current issues
to introduce students to the study and understanding of finance and economics. Topics such as international trade, the behavior of
financial markets and U.S. policy are explored from differing perspectives within the disciplines of finance and economics.
FIN 1450 Special Topics in Finance: Corporate Scandals & Crisis (3): This class is an exciting business/finance elective that
focuses on the history of corporate scandals, panics, manias, and crises from around the globe. The reasoning for this class is to
provide a background and understanding on these events and hopefully for us to learn from past mistakes. We will observe where
corporate governance and legal policies allowed these atrocities to take place and hopefully, we will gain insight how to make
preemptive changes to policy to prevent such mistakes in the future. This course will analyze all sorts of white collar crimes such as
fraud, bribery, Ponzi schemes, insider trading, embezzlement, cyber-crime, copyright infringement, and money laundering crimes (as
seen by Martha Stewart, Lance Armstrong, Allen Stanford and of course Bernie Madoff). Also, we will discuss causes for and
solutions to numerous panics, crashes and manias throughout our economic history (such as the Tulip Manic Bubble of 1637, 1929
Crash and Great Depression, Dot Com Bubble, and US/Euro Housing Crash of 2008). Lastly, we will break down some of the largest
economic corporate collapses in business ranging from the Medici Bank Collapse of 1494 to the Lehman Brothers Collapse of 2008.
HPRED 1450 Topics in Sport & Recreation Management: History of American Baseball (3): The History of American Baseball
examines nearly 200 years of American history from the perspective of the much decorated author Ken Burns. Americans have played
baseball in one form or another since the early 19th century all while they conquered a continent, warred with one another and with
enemies abroad, struggled over labor and civil rights and the meaning of freedom. Baseball, as we will see, is filled with
contradictions: it is a pastoral game that was actually born in crowded cities, an exhilarating democratic sport that tolerates cheating –
and has excluded as many as it has included, a profoundly conservative game that has sometimes managed to be years ahead of its
time. This class will look at the game and the people who made baseball what it is has become today. It will cover the stars of the
major leagues and celebrate the extraordinary players from the Negro Leagues, the pioneers who paved the way for integration of the
national pastime, and ultimately, America at large. The history of baseball is therefore fundamentally the story of race in America. But
it is also the story of the transformation of millions of immigrants from everywhere into new generations of Americans; of the rise and
fall of great American cities; of fathers and sons and of mothers and daughters; and of our insatiable need for heroes. It is an integral
and compelling manifestation of the American experience itself.
INTS 0250 Special Topics: Conversational Mandarin Chinese (3): This course is designed for students who are interested
in learning how to speak Mandarin Chinese to meet their educational and personal goals. It provides practice in beginning-level
Mandarin conversation, with attention to the use of basic vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar. The course will focus on training
the students’ oral communicational skills through selected real-life situations and topics. This course aims to develop students’ correct
pronunciation, grammatical accuracy and overall competence in listening and speaking of Mandarin Chinese.
LNSK 0250 Special Topics: TRIO: Skills for Success (1): With all the information students are exposed to in their college career, it
can be tough to know what is truly important to employers or Graduate programs. Students in our Skills Class will explore the
transferrable skill set that is highly sought after in an increasingly competitive professional market. Topics will include public
speaking, persuasion, communication dynamics, ethical behavior, and critical analysis and gathering of information. This heavily
discussion-based course will allow students to explore their own strengths and areas to improve upon.
LNSK 0250 Special Topics: TRIO: Panning for Success (1): Stop being a student and start being a professional! Join our seminar
to explore all of the tools available as you start the process of creating your professional self. Students successfully completing the
seminar will begin the process of becoming a professional by exploring what to do after graduation, creating or organizing a portfolio,
learning how to create opportunities to build your portfolio, understanding how to brand your skill set and experiences, cultivating a
professional digital image, and much more.
LNSK 0250 Special Topics: TRIO: Successfully Going Beyond (1): 5, 4,3,2,1 and you’re off! Join our seminar to successfully
transition into the next phase of your studies or the career field by pursuing opportunities beyond the classroom. Students successfully
completing the seminar will utilize professional networks, apply for employment or graduate schools, practice business etiquette in the
job search, practice interviewing skills, and address practical concerns about life after being an undergraduate student.
PEDC 0250 Special Topics: Archery (1): The purpose of this course is to equip students with the basic knowledge and archery skills
needed, that will allow them to continue to participate in this sport once they have completed the course.
PEDC 0250 Special Topics: Tai Chi (1): Tai Chi is a graceful form of exercise and commonly referred to “meditation in motion.”
Our visiting Confucius Institute scholars will take you through a series of flowing movements, stretching, and deep breathing in a selfpaced exercise class. Tai chi is low impact and generally safe for any fitness level.
PSY 0209 Lifespan Development (3): This course will focus on the processes of human development from conception through the
lifespan. Specifically, topics will be related to the factors that may impact the individuals physical, cognitive, and social-emotional
development from conception to early, middle, and late adulthood.
PSY 1447 Topics in Cognitive-Developmental Psych: Learning Strategies (3): Students use various strategies (e.g.,
highlighting/underlining, notetaking, outlining, practicing retrieval) in their attempts to retain, as well as retrieve, information for
class-related materials. Are there strategies that are more effective than others for students to use? Are there strategies that students
need to stop using? The purpose of this course is to present and discuss the strategies, based upon current supporting evidence form
cognitive psychologists, which have been shown to be the most beneficial for students to use in their attempts to retain and retrieve
information for class-related materials. Prerequisite: PSY 0101.
SOC 1455 Topics in Sociology: Sociology of the Body (3): From a sociological perspective, our human bodies are central to the
ongoing production of social life. In this course, we will approach the body as a social construction embedded within specific, shifting
socio-historical contexts, from conception to death. Using an intersectional lens, we will explore how bodies are marked by gender,
race, class, sexuality, age, ability, and health in ways that structure power relations. We will also dissect the reciprocal processes
involved with how social institutions organize bodies and how our embodiment, how we experience our bodies, may reproduce,
disrupt, or transform social institutions. Prerequisite: SOC 0101.

Internships at Pitt-Bradford
An internship is a carefully planned and monitored work experience that
meets specific learning goals related to an academic field of study.
There should be a relationship between the practical experience gained
in an internship and the academic work done in the classroom.
Internships allow students to acquire hands-on, practical experience and
develop key competencies and critical skills in their
chosen field of study.
Undergraduate students at Pitt-Bradford can earn between one and six
credits for internships. No more than 6 credits of internship may be taken
at any one time. A minimum of 45 on-site hours must be completed per
credit hour earned. Some students elect to participate in an internship
experience and not receive academic credit.
Students interested in
registering for internship
credits for Fall Term of 2016
should contact their academic
advisor or Dr. Holly J. Spittler,
Office of Career Services, 220
Frame-Westerberg Commons
Approval of an internship application is contingent upon
satisfaction of the following requirements:
Junior standing
Good academic standing and meeting the requirements of the major
Completion of the Academic Internship Learning Agreement
Approval of the faculty intern supervisor, the student's academic advisor,
the division chair and the vice president and dean of academic affairs.
Undergraduate RESEARCH Opportunities!
All students in their sophomore year or beyond are
encouraged to consider doing directed research in
their major. Such courses prove valuable for
pursuing special research interests, preparing for
the job market and enhancing one’s
competitiveness for graduate school.
Funding is available to help underwrite the costs
associated with undergraduate research, including
conference travel.
A Summer Undergraduate Research Assistant
program is also available, which includes
on-campus housing and a stipend.
For more information, contact Dr. Warren Fass, Director of Undergraduate
Research, at 362-7577 ([email protected]); the Office of Academic Affairs;

Final exams will be held in the regularly scheduled classroom unless otherwise noted.
Please see your instructor to determine the day and time for your final if your course does not fit the grid above. Students having more than two
exams on one day (excluding evening classes) may petition their instructors for assistance in rescheduling one exam at a time
mutually agreeable to student and instructor. If it is not possible to reach an agreement with one of the instructors, students should
contact the appropriate division chair.
