Udaras na hOllscoile of National University of Ireland, Galway, under and by
virtue of the powers in that behalf conferred on us by the above Acts, DO by this
present instrument under the Seal of National University of Ireland, Galway, make the
Statute contained in the Schedule hereto for the general government of the said
University.

Schedule - STATUTE CCLXXXVI
All previous Statutes of National University of Ireland, Galway, shall be read and
construed with the alterations, additions and modifications hereinafter set forth.

CHAPTER I
PROFESSORSIDP OF CARDIOVASCULAR SCIENCE
1.
There is hereby established in the University the following fulltime
Professorship:
Professorship of Cardiovascular Science.
2.
The holder of the foregoing Professorship shall be required to be at the same
time the holder in a permanent capacity of the office of Consultant
Cardiologist to be established in conjunction with the said Professorship by
the Western Health Board in the University College/Merlin Park Regional
Hospitals, Galway. In the event that the bolder of the Professorship ceases to
hold the said office of Consultant Cardiologist, (s)he shall thereby be deemed
to have resigned from the said Professorship.
3.
The holder of the said Professorship shall devote eight-elevenths of his/her
time to the duties of the said Professorship and three-elevenths of his/her time
to the duties of the foregoing office of Consultant Cardiologist.
4.
The annual stipend attaching to the said Professorship shall be eightelevenths of the salary attaching from time to time to joint full time Academic
Medical Consultant Professor appointments.
5.
The holder of the said Professorship shall deliver clinical instruction to the
students of the University at such hours and in such hospitals as the Academic
Council may prescribe, subject to review by (Jdaras na hOllscoile.
6.
The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office in accordance with the
provisions of Statutes CLXI, CLXV, CLXXX:VI, CLXXXVII, CCVII and
CCXXVI, National University of Ireland, Galway.
7.
The holder of the said Professorship shall, subject to good conduct and the
due fulfilment of his/her duties, continue in office until (s)be shall have
attai ned the age of sixty-five years, and may thereafter be continued in office
for five further years: PROVIDED that such further continuance in office be
recommended to (Jdaras na hOllscoile by the President and be sanctioned
annually by Udaras na hOllscoile.
8.
The holder of the said Professorship shall carry out the duties of the
Professorship under the direction of the Head of the Department of Medicine.

CHAPTER II
PROFESSORSIDP OF CELL THERAPY
1.
There is hereby established in the University the following fulltime
Professorship:
Professorship of Cell Therapy.
2.
The annual stipend attaching to the foregoing Professorship shall be the same
as that attaching from time to time to the fulltime Professorships of the
University.

The said Professorship shall be a pensionable office in accordance with the
provisions of Statutes CLXI, CLXV, CLXXXVI, CLXXXVII, CCVII and
CCXXVI, National University of Ireland, Galway.
4.
The holder of the said Professorship shall, subject to good conduct and the due
fulfilment of his/her duties, continue in office until (s)be shall have anained
the age of sixty-five years, and may thereafter be continued in office for five
further years: PROVIDED that such further continuance in office be
recommended to Udaras na hOllscoile by the President and be sanctioned
annually by Udaras na hOllscoile.
5.
The holder of the said Professorship shall carry out the duties of the
Professorship under the direction of the Head of the Department of Medicine.

CHAPTER III
NEW SENIOR LECTURESHIPS
(a)
There is hereby established in the University the following fulltime
Senior Lectureship:
Senior Lectureship (No. S) in Medicine.
(b)
There is hereby established in the University the following fulltime
Senior Lectureship:
Senior Lectureship (No. 6) in Political Science and Sociology.

The holder of Senior Lectureship (No. 5) in Medicine shall be required to be
at the same time the holder in a permanent capacity of the office of Consultant
Physician in Endocrinology and Diabetes Mellitus to be established in
conjunction with the said Senior Lectureship by the Western Health Board in
the University College/Merlin Park Regional Hospitals, Galway. In the event
that the holder of the said Senior Lectureship ceases to hold the said office of
Consultant Physician in Endocrinology and Diabetes Mellitus, (s)he shall
thereby be deemed to have resigned from the said Senior Lectureship.

The holder of Senior Lectureship (No. 5) in Medicine shall devote fiveelevenths of his/her time to the duties of the said Senior Lectureship and sixelevenths of his/her time to the duties of the foregoing office of Consultant
Physician in Endocrinology and Diabetes Mellitus, while the funding of the
Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI) by Science Foundation Ireland
continues. In the event that the said funding ceases after five years or
subsequently, the holder shall devote three-elevenths of his/her time to the
duties of the said Senior Lectureship and eight-elevenths of his/her time to the
duties of the said office of Consultant Physician in Endocrinology and
Diabetes Mellitus.

The annual stipend attaching to Senior Lectureship (No. 5) in Medicine shall
be five-elevenths of the salary attaching from time to time to joint fulltime
Academic Medical Consultant Senior Lecturer appointments, while the
funding of the Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI) by Science
Foundation Ireland continues. In the event that the said funding ceases after
five years or subsequently, the annual stipend attaching to the said Senior
Lectureship shall be three-elevenths of the salary attaching from time to time
to joint fulltime Academic Medical Consultant Senior Lecturer appointments.

The holder of Senior Lectureship (No. 5) in M edicine shall deliver clinical
instruction to the students of the University at such hours and in such hospitals

The annual stipend attaching to the foregoing Senior Lectureship (No. 6) in
Political Science and Sociology shall be the same as that attaching from time
to time to the fulltime Senior Lectureships of the University.

Each of rhe said Senior Lectureships shall be a pensionable office in
accordance with the provisions of Statutes CLXI, CLXV, CLXX.XVI,
CLXXXVII, CCVII and CCXXVI, National University of Ireland, Galway.
8.
The holder of each of the said Senior Lectureships shall, subject to good
conduct and the due fulfilment of his/her duties, continue in office until (s)he
shall have attained the age of sixty-five years, and may thereafter be continued
in office for five further years: PROVIDED that such further continuance in
office be recommended to Udaras na hOllscoile by the President and be
sanctioned annually by Udaras na hOllscoile.
9.
The holder of Senior Lectureship (No.5) in Medicine shall carry out the duties
of the Senior Lectureship under the direction of the Head of the Department of
Medicine.
10.
The holder of Senior Lectureship (No. 6) in Political Science and Sociology
shall carry out the duties of the Senior Lectureship under the direction of the
Head of the Department of Political Science and Sociology.

CHAPTER IV
l.
Nothing herein contained shall affect any appointment made, right acquired or
act done under any previous Statute of the University.
2.
This Statute shall come into operation on the thirtieth day of April, Two
Thousand and Four, and may be cited as Statute CCLXXXVI, National
University of Ireland, Galway, or Stat. CCLXXXVI, Nat. Univ. of I., Galway.
