HERBICIDE MOA CLASSIFICATION
GROUP
9 GLYPHOSATE
Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Refuge.
But there’s more to know about how Refuge controls weeds.
Glyphosate acid has a negative charge and is neutralized when positive ions (cations) such as potassium, isopropylamine,
or diammonium are added to form a salt. Salts are soluble and enable different formulations to be produced (i.e., a liquid
or dry product).
Salts can carry different amounts of glyphosate acid. And this can affect the acid equivalent (AE) of the formulation.
The glyphosate acid is the part of the formulation that does the work, so the pounds of acid equivalent (lbs AE) determines
the strength of the herbicide.
