FEBRUARY- MARCH 2017 BLAKER-KINSER JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL Blaker– Kinser website address: http://blaker.ceres.k12.ca.us/ Note from the Principal: Hello, Shark Families! The second half of the school year is an extremely busy one for us at BlakerKinser. We are making sure that our 8th graders are truly prepared for the challenges and successes ahead of them in high school, and we are celebrating the hard work of all our students as they build toward mastery of key skills in all their classes. By the time you receive another one of these newsletters, students will be prepared for the their annual state testing, the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) that gauges student mastery of the state standards. These online exams give us good information on the learning of our students and the strengths of our academic program, and this information can be useful to support students both at school and at home. Please encourage your students to take these exams seriously and to prepare for them through dedication to their school work. As you prepare for the end of the school year for your students and for upcoming tests, please take advantage of our Spring Parent Conference schedule on March 1st and March 2nd. On March 1st, teachers will be available to meet with parents from 12:25 to 2:25 PM. On March 2nd, teachers will be available from 12:25 to 2:25, and again from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Please make use of this opportunity to talk to teachers, assess your student’s academic progress, and ask teachers how students can continue to prepare themselves for the expectations for the next grade level. The staff here at Blaker-Kinser has had an excellent year so far serving your students, and we are looking forward to an excellent second half of the 201617 school year! Coffee Connect All Parents are invited to our next 2 meetings on February 2nd and March 9th at 8:30 am. We want to share with you a few celebrations about the first half of the year! Our students like school: in 2015-16 our students had a 96.36% attendance rate. Already in 2016-17 that has increased to a 97.29% attendance rate. In the first quarter alone of the 2016-17 school year there has been a significant reduction in Home Suspension (60% drop from this point last year) and Class Suspension (67% drop this point last year). Only 48 out of our 676 students on campus did not qualify for the Renaissance program (our Academic incentive program) at the end of first quarter! On recent student surveys, at least 90% of students have positive things to say about adults on campus. Your students have many chances to show fantastic school pride with at least a dozen clubs on campus to join. We want you to know that the entire staff here at Blaker Kinser is dedicated to helping you students achieve their greatest successes. Most importantly, we would like to thank you. These celebrations would not be possible without your support of your students. Thank you for all you do!
