‘HAPPINESS THROUGH LEARNING’
YOUR SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
April 2017
I hope you are all looking forward to the Easter Break and let’s hope the good weather stays for the holidays. Our year 5
and 6 children performed the Cantata, ‘Jerusalem Joy’ on Thursday afternoon and it brought the true meaning of Easter to
us all in school and the parents that attended thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Well done Year 5 and 6. We say a sad
farewell to Mrs Mills who has been working in our school for 9 years in various different year groups over time. She has
helped to develop our school in so many ways and supported many new initiatives which we thank her greatly for. We hope
that she enjoys the new challenges ahead and wish her well. Miss Elliott will also leave us on Friday and wish her all the very
best as she returns to Stokesley and thank her also for the support that she has given our Year 6 and our school in driving
initiatives that will develop the school in the future. Mrs Austin will be replacing Mrs Mills and working with Miss Gilbertson
in year 1 and we look forward to her joining us after the Easter Holidays.
Red Nose Day
We had a fabulous turn out for our ‘Wear Something Red Instead’ for Red Nose Day and had raised in excess of £200. As
donations are still coming in we hope to have a final figure soon. We have been given a surplus of red nose day drinking
bottles from Sainsbury’s care of Mrs Hughes, which can be bought from the school office for £1.00. All proceeds will be
sent to the Red Nose Charity.
World Health Day
On Friday 7th April we will be celebrating World Health Day. The children have been asked to bring something from home
which they associate with being healthy. In each class they will discuss their healthy items and share their wellbeing ideas.
In the afternoon we will be holding an Intra-house Quad kids for all of the children, fingers crossed the weather is good to
us.
PE and Sport
Our Gymnastics team took part in Key Steps at the Leisure centre. Unfortunately the top two teams got through to the
finals so we just missed out! However, well done to Evie Price, Martha McQuaker, Daizy Macleod, Sienna Smithson, PeggyAnne Donoghue, Emily O’Neill, India O’Neill, Kate Eksteen, Adam Probst, Robert Coulson, Erika Maughan, Ellie-Mae Coulson,
Gabriella Mathers, Lydia Thackray and Ruby Cullen. Additional congratulations to Evie, Sienna and Adam who received
individual medals for their achievements during the competition. The Quick-sticks Hockey tournament took place on 8th
March at Northallerton School and our children did incredibly well! Well done to - Alfie West, Harry D’Ambrogio, Robert
Coulson, Alisha Brown, Alfie Bright, Oliver Wilson, Hayden Norton, Oliver Sinclair, Reece Stearman, India O’Neill, Sam
Rhodes and Kate Eksteen. The cross country county finals took place on 23 rd March 2017, our runners Beth Swales-Williams,
Robert Coulson and Henry Kirkbride all ran their best and did themselves proud. A big thank you to all of our children who
behaved impeccably whilst representing our school and they were amazing ambassadors of our school..
Year 2 and 6
Year 2 and 6 will soon be studying hard for their upcoming SATs in May. Please continue to make sure that your child keeps
up their good attendance after the Easter holidays so that they do not miss any important revision days. Please ensure that
Year 6 pupils attend each day of the SATs week 8th – 12th May. There will be a breakfast club each morning of this week
for the Year 6 pupils and we will provide more information soon. If any parents would like to discuss these tests further
please contact school and make an appointment where we will endeavour to answer any of your queries. I am sure our
children will give their best and we wish them luck. Many Thanks.
School Admin
If you need to apply for a pupil leave of absence then can you please collect a form at least 6 weeks before the date of
absence from the school office. Mrs Byrne considers each individual circumstance and does refer to our Local Authority
for advice and guidance.
Could we please remind parents that dinner money and ‘Before and After Club’ money is paid in advance and outstanding
monies be paid as soon as possible. Dinner money can be paid by ParentPay but cash/cheques/debit-credit card payments are
still acceptable. Any money brought to school should be in a clearly marked envelope and given to the class teacher at
registration.
Any unused medicine held in the school office not collected before the holidays will be disposed of.
Free School Meals
As you know there are some families that are entitled to Free School meals. In order to clarify whether you are eligible I
have copied the details below. If you feel that you may qualify there is a form to fill in from school to register. If you do
not register, even though you are eligible, the school will miss out on the financial allowance for Free School meal pupils.
Therefore we would urge you to register even if you do not want your child to take up the opportunity of a free meal. Many
thanks.
School Uniform
School Sweatshirts, Cardigans, Polo Tops and T-shirts can now be ordered online. Please log onto the school website,

£6.50, alternatively delivery to school is free and orders will be delivered every 2 – 3 weeks, please add bcpfreepost for
free delivery to the ‘coupon code’ box on the checkout page. School Bags, PE Bags, School Sunhats and Ties are available to
buy from the school office. Please note that on request we can now offer your child’s initials to be put on the school
sweatshirts at a cost of £2.50 for up to three initials. Please bring your child’s jumper or cardigan to the school office and
let us know your requirements.
Scholastic Book Fair
Thank you to everyone who supported the School Book Fair. We raised a fantastic £560 and we will be using our profits of
£270 to buy much needed books for our school library.
Attendance and Punctuality
As you know pupil attendance is imperative in order that children do not miss any of their lessons during the academic year.
In school we are taking it very seriously and have many children who achieve the 100% Attendance certificate at the end of
every academic year. Punctuality is also very important as there are lots of activities in the classroom that are carried out
first thing in the morning. If your child arrives in school when the register is closed then they have to legally be marked
late. We also have ‘Wake Up Shake Up’ in the morning and your child will miss this if they arrive in school late. In addition to
punctuality we have an issue concerning the late collection of children.
Please note: School finishes at 3.15pm, unless your child is attending an after school club or the Brompton Bees After
school club, they must be collected from their classroom teacher on the playground at this time. If the collection of your
child is persistently late it will be necessary for your child to be supervised by the After School Club, please note this will
incur an attendance fee.
The attendance in school at present reads:
Year 6 – 97.1%
Year 5 - 96.4%
Year 4 - 96.9%
Year 3 – 96.7%
Year 2 - 96.7%
Year 1 - 96.2%
F2 – 95.3%
Well done Year 6! Year 4 are just behind you!
FOBs
Once again we had the Easter Bunny Drive in March, a big thank you to everyone who attended. Lots of hard work had gone
in to the egg decorating competition. Our FOBs team work very hard and all for the benefit of our children. Many thanks
to them as we do appreciate their time.
School Safety
We still have parents that are blocking the school driveway with their cars, using the marked bus bays or using the staff
car park on a morning and this is imposing on families walking safely into school and visitors and staff trying to get into the
car park. Can I please ask that you park in the car park next to school and walk into school and use the pedestrian walkways
to enter and exit school. Thank you for your cooperation with this safeguarding issue.
Brompton Community News
