MFGE­735: Manufacturing Engineering Field Problem Problem Definition Form This form must be completed by all M.S. in Manufacturing Engineering students who intend to register for MFGE‐
735: Manufacturing Engineering Field Problem prior to the start of the semester you intend to complete it. The form must be submitted in a timely manner to ensure acceptance. It is your responsibility to contact a potential Research Advisor from available manufacturing engineering faculty. The following course documentation is provided to assist in your development of your field problem. Course Description: Identification, selection and completion of a problem in manufacturing engineering culminating in a Plan B paper. Application of advanced manufacturing engineering topics. Course Outcomes: 1. Specific field problem outcomes arranged with graduate research advisor. 2. Provide for and maintain care to protect human subjects in research. 3. Execute field problem with proven ethical behavior and proper conduct. 4. Understand of data analyses commensurate with the field problem. 5. Appreciation for how new knowledge is created within their own field. 6. Utilize different approaches to the development of knowledge, e.g., empirical, experimental, developmental, qualitative, quantitative, etc. 7. Critically consume, e.g., understand potential design flaws, biases, etc., information that may be reported either in the popular press or in the discipline‐specific journals. 8. Provide insight of judgments, decisions, and subjectivity in the execution of the field problem. 9. Synthesize and summarize research findings in written format.
