Our Business Unit (BU) Transformers, a world leader in the development and
manufacturing of all ranges of power as well as distribution transformers and
related components, is looking for a Technical Expert for Electrical Steel
(e-steel) for transformer cores.
In this exciting role, you will provide technical expertise on e-steel development
and testing for our global Transformers business, contributing to R&D projects,
collaborations with our steel suppliers, and core manufacturing operations.

Tasks
Provide expertise on main technical and manufacturing
challenges in e-steel development, testing and quality control
- Prepare and/or supervise all the technical documents and
internal production/quality standards related to e-steel, and
unify them within the full transformers range.
- Propose innovative ideas for future projects, in cooperation
with ABB’s broader R&D organization
- Represent ABB in relevant international technical
committees for this topic and act as technical authority on
e-steel within our global Transformer business
- Contribute to the definition of a roadmap for e-steel as well
as R&D collaborations with e-steel manufacturers
- Provide technical support to our worldwide transformer
factories regarding technical and quality matters with e-steel;
support suppliers’ audits together with the BU Quality function

- Ensure that internal developments are properly protected
from an Intellectual property standpoint.
Requirements
- Advanced degree in materials engineering, ideally Ph.D.in
metallurgy
- 3+ years’ experience working in the engineering or R&D
department of an e-steel or transformer core manufacturer
- Structured approach to problem solving paired with a highly
proactive and result-driven attitude
- Strong communication, presentation and networking skills
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken
- Availability to travel internationally as required
