Topic for Week: Early Greece
Purpose/Objective of the lessons: The students learn about the geography of Greece. The students will practice
JMS expectations.
Essential Questions: Each polis is different in Greece. What are the ways they are similar and different?
Relevance: The students will practice being successful JMS students.

Monday Jan. 9, 2011
Focus/Review or Link to Prior Learning, bell work: Read about their polis- share out key information, students who
are not finished with venn-diagram from Friday will complete first.
Lesson: The students will complete an anticipation guide to discuss what they think they know about 4-2 Greece. This will
be new for them so modeling will need to take place. I will model the first two. Then we will work together on two, then
they can work with partner on rest. If the students get finished early they can complete fun Greece activity.

Tuesday Jan. 10, 2011
Focus/Review or Link to Prior Learning, bell work: Sparta and Athens venn-diagram
Lesson: We will go over anticipation guide from yesterday and discuss what they read. They will then define vocabulary
for sections 4-3/4. When they are finished I will introduce the Greek Hero game. We will do together as a class. Next
class they can download on their own if needed.

Wednesday Jan. 11, 2011
Focus/Review or Link to Prior Learning, bell work: vocab review
Lesson: The students will work with their polis and read section 4-3 pages 131-137. They will fill out the chart on the ruler
and the accomplishments as they work together. Each polis will then tell what happened to their polis when Persia
attacked. Homework- study for quiz

Thursday Jan. 12, 2011
Focus/Review or Link to Prior Learning, bell work: vocab quiz.
Lesson: We will go over 4-3 work from pervious lesson then the students will jigsaw read pages 138-146 and share out
with the class. Each polis will share what information they read about in the section. The sections are: 1. The Athenian
Empire & Democracy in Athens, 2. Comparing governments & The Achievements in Pericles, 3. Pericles(page 141), 4.
Daily Life in Athens pages 142- 144- all subsections, 5. The Peloponnesian War all sections. Those not sharing will take
notes in Cornell style.
Guided Practice, homework: none.
Friday Jan. 13, 2011
Focus/Review or Link to Prior Learning, bell work: Summarize age of Pericles
Lesson: The students will reread pages 138-146 and complete the guided reading.
When the students are finished they will play Greek Hero on computer.
Guided Practice, homework: none unless essay not completed.
Outlook for next week: -Bell WorkThe students will play the Ancient Greece Artifacts and Achievements Simulation. Materials are needed including play
dough(make in advance).
Have a study guide and test this week.
