When will you have your moment?
Why Bilbao?
Academics
Bilbao is a bustling, friendly, and beautiful city in the Basque
country of northern Spain. Historically known as the
industrial capital of the region, Bilbao has undergone major
urban renewal. The University of Deusto is located between
two of the ambitious architectural projects that have fueled
this change – the Guggenheim Museum and Euskalduna
Palace. Although the underground metro connects downtown
with the surrounding neighborhoods, one can easily walk
from Old Town “Casco Viejo” to the shopping district, to
the Guggenheim, and back across the river to campus.
Students receive 12 to 18 credits per semester and six credits for
the summer program. All major courses must be pre-approved
by a department chair. Elective credits may be approved by the
Center for International Education and Global Engagement.
Students must receive a “C” or better for a course to transfer.
Study at the University of Deusto
The University of Deusto is located in the heart of Bilbao
along the banks of the Nervion River and across from
the Guggenheim Museum. The Cursos Internacionales
Deusto de Espanol (CIDE) consist of intensive courses
in Spanish language and culture, and are designed
to accommodate the needs of international students.
Courses are also available in business, economics,
sociology, psychology, education, and European studies,
depending on the level of a student’s Spanish proficiency.
Housing & Meals
Three different housing options are available: residence
hall, home stay, or a shared apartment. Residence halls
are available near campus, and students will share a room
with a Spanish student. All rooms have a private bathroom.
Residence halls include three daily meals, bed linens, towels, laundry facilities, library, study room, TV room, computer room, free internet access and a gym. Family stays
are within commutable distance to campus and include a
single or shared room, three daily meals, laundry, bed linens, towels and incoming telephone calls. Students may
also choose a single or shared room in a furnished apartment. Apartments include kitchen privileges, living room
and bathroom. Bed linens, towels and blankets are provided only in some cases. Prices vary by housing choice.
Eligibility
Services
This program is open to undergraduate
students who have completed 12 or
more semester hours and have a 2.5
GPA or higher. Although Spanish
language proficiency is not required,
the program is language-intensive and
designed to immerse students into the
Spanish language. Several courses in
international business and international
studies are available in English.
The estimated cost of the program
includes tuition, academic advising,
airport pick-up, guided excursions,
internet, library, and gym access, the
Spanish conversation program, and
the transfer of academic records and
