Overview:
The Check Hold Release screen allows for either all or part of a check hold to be released so
that those funds are immediately available.
Key Benefits:
The Custom Check Hold Release screen allows for either part or all of a Check Hold to be
released so that those funds are immediately available. This allows the Financial Institution
to override the standard DNA check holds schedule when necessary.
Processing:
A New Screen ‘Check Hold Release’ has been created to release the Check Hold.






If this screen is accessed from the Services module, the Query button and account
number fields are visible and enabled.
To release funds, the user selects the row to modify, press edit. The only editable field
is release amount. The user can enter any amount, as long as it does not exceed the
hold amount. Once the change has been processed, the funds become available.
This screen uses an available increment code (8CHR) to move and track these funds.
This available increment code should not be associated with any fund types, or used
for any other purpose. The screen always releases the funds immediately, regardless
of the available duration days associated with this increment code. If this available
increment code is associated with any fund types and deposits are processed against
it, results may be unpredictable.
This screen can be used to modify fund where the deposit was not made on and
before the current posting date.
When using this screen the Financial Institutions are not able to tie back the amount
released to a specific transaction in DNA.
Funds availability information is not reflected accurately when reprinting deposit
receipts.


This screen may only be used to release a hold; it may not be used to re-assign a
hold. For example, this screen may not be used to re-assign a five-day hold to a twoday hold.
This screen should not be used to modify memo holds, or results may be
unpredictable when the memo holds are re-assigned.
Any modifications to funds availability made via this screen may be lost if a transaction
on the same account is subsequently error-corrected later on the same posting day.
Please review this screen prior to error correcting a transaction on the Teller Journal
screen.
Care should be taken when releasing ATM holds through this screen (ATM holds may
only be modified if they appear on the check holds tab and not the card holds tab on
the DNA Holds Screen). Future ATM hold re-assignments made after ATM envelopes
are opened and verified, both via automated and manual processes, may not be
accurate if the hold was modified via this screen.
Activity data is generated for this new screen. The activity data may be searched
using by specifying a category of “Account Maintenance” and type of “Check Hold
Release” as shown below:
Examples:
All examples assume a hold was placed on the entire deposit, Regulation CC or additional
funds availability were granted at the time of the deposit, all deposits are made on the same
posting date:
Example 1 – Deposit made at teller line, hold available date modified using standard DNA
process, second deposit made later in the day:
A deposit is made at the teller line, consisting of one local check. A two-day hold is placed on
the item at the time of deposit. The teller releases the hold using standard DNA functionality
(release date changed to today on the Check Holds Tab of the Manage Holds Screen).
When the teller changes the release date to today, the funds are made available immediately.
If a second deposit consisting of a local check is made to the same account later in the day,
the funds are placed in the local check two-day core bucket, but are available immediately, as
the release date for all two-day local items has already been modified to be available today.
This is only true for deposits made on the same posting day, using the same fund types,
where the hold has been previously released. If a hold was released on a local two-day item
yesterday, and a deposit is made today consisting of a local two-day item, the hold is set, and
the funds are not available for two days.
Example 2 – Deposit made at teller line, hold amount modified via new screen, additional
deposit made later in the day:
A deposit is made at the teller line, consisting of one local check. A two-day hold is placed on
the item at the time of deposit. The teller releases the hold using the new screen (the teller
may release the entire hold or a portion of the hold). If a second deposit consisting of a local
check is made to the same account later in the day, the funds are placed in the local check
two-day core bucket, and the funds are not available for two days.
Example 3 – Deposit made at teller line, hold amount modified via new screen, additional
deposit made later in the day, hold amount modified via new screen, additional deposit made
later on the same day:
A deposit is made at the teller line, consisting of one local check. A two-day hold is placed on
the item at the time of deposit. The teller releases the hold using the new screen (the teller
may release the entire hold or a portion of the hold).
A second deposit consisting of a local check is made to the same account later in the day,
the funds are placed in the local check two-day core bucket, and the funds are not available
for two days. The teller releases all or a portion of the second deposit using the new screen.
A third deposit consisting of a local check is made to the same account still later in the day,
the funds are placed in the local check two-day core bucket, and the funds are not available
for two days. If the teller chooses to release a portion of the hold for the third deposit, the
new screen includes the total amount of funds released today via the new screen, but is not
shown a breakdown by deposit. The teller is able to see that funds were already released
today via the new screen, and the amount of the funds made available, but does not know
how many times the screen was used, without researching through activity.
