Blue Jays open GF Duals with two wins

Blue Jays open G.F. Duals with two wins
Published January 22 2011
The Jamestown Blue Jays went 2-1 to start the Grand Forks Multi-Duals on Friday, which included
three wrestlers going 3-0 on the day.
Jaden Horsted, Brent Mittleider and Donovan Zuck all went unbeaten on Friday as the Blue Jays
took down Minot and Devils Lake, but fell to Fargo North by a slim margin,
“It was a pretty good day for us,” said Jamestown coach Greg White. “We wrestled well today.”
The Blue Jays started off against Minot, which was a makeup from Dec. 30th when snow wiped
away their contest in Minot.
Jamestown fell down 28-17 before rallying back to win the final three matches to narrowly escape
with a 29-28 win.
“That was a big win for us,” White said. “We were behind but we won the last three and ended up
with the win.”
Nick Erickson picked up a pin at 189 pounds to spark the late surge, while Zuck and Clay
Greenwood finished it off with a pair of 1-0 decisions at 215 and 275 pounds, respectively.
“Those were some good matches,” said White. “It doesn’t matter what the score is as long as you
get the win.”
The Blue Jays were mixed up in another close match when they hit the mat against Fargo North, but
this time Jamestown came away on the losing end, 39-36.
Horsted picked up his second of three pins on the day at 112 pounds, while Mittleider notched his
first at 1:40 in just 46 seconds.
Zane Braun and Zuck earned pins along the way — Zuck’s coming against the fifth-ranked wrestler
in the state — but it was Fargo North’s Chase Muhonen that lifted the Spartans to the victory when
he won 4-2 at 275 pounds.
“It was another great match,” White said. “We just ended up on the losing end of that one.”
Jamestown didn’t have much trouble with the Firebirds as the Blue Jays cruised to a 53-9 victory
after Devils Lake left seven weight classes open.
Horsted, Brandyn Harr and Mittleider all earned pins to help the Blue Jays sail into the second day of
action on a high note. “Brett hasn’t been feeling very well in practice but he’s been hanging in there,”
White said. “He was pretty impressive for someone who wasn’t feeling very well.” The Blue Jays will
have two more duals today to round out the two-day tournament in Grand Forks. Jamestown will first
meet up with Williston and finish up with Grand Forks Central.
