If you really think about it- people drink to alter their state of mind- and when you alter your state of mind- you’re not in your right mind anymore- and you make decisions that are dangerous to yourself and those around you. We want you to stay and safe beautiful, so please don't drink and don't put yourself in a situation where you are in danger because someone else is drinking ATTENTION, JUNIORS! THE SENIORS MAY HAVE WON THE HOMECOMING HALL CONTEST, BUT WE WON’T LET THEM WIN THE FOOD DRIVE! BRING IN YOUR NON-PERISHABLE CANNED GOOD TO THE MIXING BOWL EVERY DAY FROM NOW UNTIL OCTOBER 30TH! There will be MANDATORY debate meetings during STEP today. If you are debating this week, you MUST attend both meetings. The meetings will begin at exactly 11:00 AM. They will only last 15 minutes, but I need all debaters there. If you do not attend, you will be scratched from the debate. Again, mandatory debate meetings during STEP in Ms. Young’s room starting at 11:00 AM. Attention all juniors!!! There will be a junior class meeting in the auditorium on Thursday, October 30th during STEP. We will finalize the theme for prom, discuss the class of 2016 senior banquet, and discuss fundraising. Teachers: Due to the PSAT’s there was a change with Mr. Johnson’s 3rd period theater class Poetry Presentations! Instead of last Wednesday and Thursday October 15th & 16th, it will now be this Wednesday & Thursday, Oct. 22nd and 23rd in the auditorium. Again, the theater class poetry presentations will now be presented on Wednesday & Thursday Oct. 22nd & 23rd, during period 3 in the auditorium. Sign-ups are in the mailroom. Listen to heart-felt original poems on topics like love, tragedy, social consciousness and the environment. See these works presented on the main stage with instrumental music, dance and slide show presentations!! Don’t meet us there!!!Beat us there!!! Attention all Drama Club members: There will be tech crew today after school at 2:30pm in the auditorium. We need you there the play is fast approaching! Attention all students: The LFI students are running a canned food drive in the mixing bowl. Please place canned food in your class’s box before Oct 30. The class who collects the most can attend a Halloween party Oct. 30! Thank you. Calling all drum, bass, and piano players! We need some talented musicians to join us in the pit orchestra of our fall musical, “Schoolhouse Rock, Live!” Auditions will be held on Monday, October 20th beginning at 2:30pm in the band room. Auditioning pieces can be picked up at the drama call board located on the top floor next to the staircase in the B hallway, or see Mr. Tarzwell in room B200. Faculty members are also welcome to join in on the fun. And now for some career center news There will be a college fair for Latino Juniors and Seniors on October 29 at the Bohrer Park Center in Gaithersburg. Watkins Mill will take one bus of students to the fair from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Fifty colleges and universities will be present. The cost is free. Students need a signed permission slip to attend. Please stop by the College/Career Center to pick up a permission slip and to see the list of colleges that will attend. Signed forms will be accepted until Friday or until the bus is filled up whichever comes first. There will be a parent night on October 28 for all Latino high school students and their parents at Gaithersburg HS beginning at 7 pm to talk about college readiness and financial aid for college. This event is on October 28, the night before the Latino College Fair. The event will be held in both English and Spanish. Stop by the College/Career Center for more info. Remember students Watkins Mill High School will be partnering with the MVA to offer the Learner’s Permit test here at Watkins Mill High School. If you are eligible to obtain your learner’s permit and would like to take the test here at school, stop by the main office to pick up the application. The completed application must be returned to the main office no later than Friday, October 24th. The test date will be Saturday, November 1st at 1:00pm in the media center.
