Knock, knock! Who’s there? April Fool’s Day, that’s who!
Ha! When you’re a child (of 4 or 94 :-), this month signifies
one of the greatest times of the year: an entire 24 hours set aside
for you to play tricks on those around you. The remarkable day
where you not only get to do your utmost to “get” your pals/
family members into believing the silliest of
notions, but are actually encouraged to (well,
“Knocksort of ) by societal tradition. Can’t get much
knock...”
better than that!
The best part is when your well-thought-out ruse actually
works and you have a stunned person standing before you, while
you’re doubled-over, roaring with laughter. What usually follows
is that somebody then plays an April Fool’s joke on you; and for
some reason those jokes never seem to be quite as funny.
Assuming that most of us are past that stage (sadly!) oftentimes we look to this month as a sign of fresh life and renewal.
Renewal in the buds on trees and flowers, sure, but also renewal
within our lives if we so choose. I think it’s a wonderful time of
year to count one’s blessings and embrace the new season both
literally (get out there and enjoy the day!) and figuratively (do
something new that you’ve always wanted to try).
We’ll be here, watching over your precious data materials
and handling your storage needs so you can devote yourself to
welcoming the upcoming springtime.
Knock, knock! Who’s there? A new beginning, that’s who!
Enjoy....

April Foolery
April Fool’s Day is not a national holiday—at least officially. Although the government doesn’t recognize this annual
day of fun and pranks, it has found its way into the hearts
of people young and old. It is believed to have started in the
sixteenth century in France, when Pope Gregory, changing the beginning of the year from April 1st to January 1st,
introduced a new calendar to the world. Some people either
hadn’t heard of the change or didn’t believe it. When they
continued to celebrate New Year’s Day on April 1st, they were
called “April Fools.”
The tradition of playing tricks on others became popular
in Europe in the eighteenth century, and was brought to the
New World by early American settlers. Early pranks in colonial
America included pinning signs on people’s backs, putting
salt or pepper in candy, telling people they had a hole in their
clothes or food on their face, or holding items in place by a
string. Teachers in the nineteenth century used to say to pupils,
“Look! A flock of geese!” and point up. The prankster would
then yell, “April Fool!”
In modern times, April 1st is a day set aside to play small,
clever tricks on people. To qualify as a real April Fool’s prank, it
should be harmless, in good fun, and completely believable (at
least for a while) by your victim. Your trickery should always
make your victim smile when you shout “April Fool’s!” So, get
creative and go make some “April Fools” out of your friends.

Healthy Living Tip
Learning about your family tree can be fun and interesting,
but it can also be useful to staying healthy. A family health history
can help you know if you are at higher risk for certain diseases.
You should ask your family members about any diseases and
conditions they have. Keep some simple notes about the types of
conditions they have, as well as their age at the onset of symptoms.
This information can help your health care practitioner provide
better care and proper screening for certain conditions.
Car Tip
If your car’s air conditioning unit does not seem to be
working as it should, ask your mechanic to check whether your
vehicle could benefit from a recharging. Generally, this involves
an inspection of your air conditioning system and a refilling of
refrigerant. If a leak is present, then the only effective way to
improve your system is a complete repair.

Dog at the Movies
A woman went to see a movie and noticed that in the front
row was a man with a dog. The dog sat quietly until the movie
started. Then, during the sad scenes, he cried and whimpered.
During the funny scenes, the dog laughed and chuckled. This
continued all the way through the film.
At the end of the show, the woman approached the man and
said, “That is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Your dog
really seemed to enjoy the movie.”
The man turned to the woman and replied, “Yeah, I know.
I’m surprised too. He really hated the book.”
Playing Chess
A man went to visit a friend and was amazed to find him playing chess with his dog. He watched in astonishment for a while.
“I just can’t believe it,” he said to his friend. “I have never
seen such a smart dog!”
=“Nah, he’s not so smart,” the friend replied. “I’ve already
beaten him three games out of five.”

Each month we’ll give you a new challenge of some type. All
those who reply with a correct answer are eligible to win. At
the end of this month we’ll draw one lucky name. Here is
this month’s mindbender.
Riddle: You are in a car moving at a constant speed. On your
left side is a sheer drop. On your right side is a fire engine. In
front of you is a galloping pig which is the same size as your car.
Behind you is a helicopter flying at ground level. The giant pig,
the helicopter and the fire engine are all traveling at the same
speed as you and have you blocked in. You are trapped in a very
dangerous situation. What must you do to safely get out of this
highly dangerous situation?
Did You Know: Eggs
To tell if an egg is hard-boiled or fresh, give it a spin. If it spins
easily, it’s hard-boiled. If it wobbles, it’s raw.
A fresh egg will sink in water; a stale one will float.
An egg ages more in one day at room temperature than in one
week in the refrigerator.
Eggs can be kept refrigerated in their carton for at least 4 to 5
weeks beyond the pack date.
Eggs are one of the few foods that
naturally contain Vitamin D.
A hen requires 24 to 26 hours to produce an egg. Thirty minutes later, she
starts all over again.
The largest single chicken egg ever laid
weighed a pound and had a double yolk
and double shell.
As a hen grows older she produces larger eggs.
A mother hen turns her egg over about fifty times per day to
keep the yolk from sticking to the sides of the shell.
There are over 200 breeds of chickens.
White shelled eggs are produced by hens with white feathers
and white ear lobes. Brown shelled eggs are produced by hens
with red feathers and red ear lobes. There is no difference in
taste or nutrition between white and brown eggs.

Easy Ways to Lose Weight Without Even Trying
The key to losing weight is to either cut calorie intake or increase calorie burning exercise. It can be a challenge to do either,
but there are some simple things you can do each day that will help. These tips are easy and let you drop the pounds without a
lot of effort.
1. Increase the intensity of your everyday movements. Whether you are walking the dog, doing housework, or just walking around your office, you can make each movement count. Walk a bit quicker than you
normally do, take the stairs, or turn on some music while you move. Increasing the number of steps you
take and the amount of upper body movement you do will increase your body’s ability to burn calories.
2. Eat more, but smaller, meals. There have been many studies that show that eating meals around 400
to 500 calories spaced throughout the day is healthier for you. This strategy has been linked to greater calorie
burning after meals, a better response to insulin, and lower fasting blood cholesterol levels. It also maintains
your hunger levels and keeps you from binge eating because you are very hungry.
3. Increase your small movements. Researchers have found that people who fidget, tap their feet, prefer standing to sitting,
and generally move around more burn up to 350 more calories a day than those who sit still. These small movements over the
course of a day help to increase your body’s metabolic rate, thus burning more calories.
4. Everyone knows that you should drink eight glasses of water a day. It is good for your body. But did you know that it can
also increase your metabolism? Researchers have found that drinking two 8-ounce glasses of cold water increases your metabolic
rate by 30 percent. This comes from the body warming the water and then working to absorb it. The best time to drink water is
before meals and snacks and during exercise.
5. Increasing fiber at each meal can help you feel fuller. People who eat 13 grams or less of fiber are five times as likely to be
overweight as those who take in more fiber. Fiber rich foods require more chewing, speed the passage of food through the digestive
tract, and boost the hormones that control appetite. Fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains are great sources of fiber.
