APPENDIX 5
TRAIL/DEVELOPMENT SITE DESCRIPTIONS
Description of Trails, Roads and Right of ways Requiring Restoration
Site 1
A total of 650 meters of very steep BC Hydro access roads from the Aberdeen Mall
parking lot into the park. The road is approximately 3 meters wide and void of
vegetation. Water erosion is evident along the edge of the road. The erosion forms a
gully which eventually travels away from the road and through grassland vegetation.
Total area approximately 1950m2.
Site 2
BC Gas right of way 2320 meters long. Northern section is steep and has some rutted
sections. Sections of weed infestations along road edges.
Total area approximately 6960m2
Site 2a
Old access road 1925 meters long. Vegetation is slowly reclaiming this site.
Total area approximately 5775m2
Site 3
A 4820 meter maze of steep and eroded BC Gas, BC Hydro and Weyerhaeuser right of
ways. Some roads must be maintained for vehicle access; others could be closed and
revegetated. Steep cutslopes and water erosion exist through out this area. Knapweed
and Toadflax also occur along road edges.
Total area approximately 14 460m2
Site 4
A very steep 340 meter long mountain bike trail down a sparsely vegetated Southern
exposure slope.
Total area approximately 340m2
Site 5
Old dead end road 145 meters long with some vegetation recolonizing.
Total area approximately 290m2
Site 6
A small 92 meter spur trail to an unmapped look-out site. This trail is being used quite
heavily.
Total area approximately 92m2
Site 7
A sparsly vegetated 'short cut' trail approximately 84 meters long and 3 meters wide.
This area is infested with Dalmatian toadflax and some Spotted Knapweed
Total area approximately 252m2
Site 8
A small mountain bike trail approximately 214 meters long and 1m wide on a relatively
steep North facing slope. This trail goes through a wooded area with no noxious weeds.
Total area approximately 214m2
Site 9
A mountain bike trail 249 long that travels through an open north facing grassland area.
This area is fairly healthy, but Spotted knapweed and Dalmatian toadflax are apparent.
Total area approximately 249m2
Site 10
A 237 m section of the Reservoir Trail that is deeply double rutted and infested with
Spotted knapweed.
Total area approximately 711m2
Site 11
Two old roads totaling 225m with very little vegetation except for Spotted knapweed and
Dalmatian toadflax. The soil in this area is very rocky.
Total area approximately 675m2
Site 12
A 289m long mountain bike trail that travels through open Pine and sage. This area is
becoming increasingly infested with noxious weeds.
Total area approximately 289m2
Site 12a
A redundant 88m section of the Doug Daws trail that travels parallel to the official trail
only 3 meters apart.
Total area approximately 176m2
Site 13
An old road roughly 582 meters long and 3 meters wide with varying steepness and
condition. The Northern section is steep and infested with Spotted knapweed. The
Southern section is also steep and has varying levels of weeds. The trail travels through
some wooded areas with little or no weeds. Some sections of the trail are beginning to
become recolonized with vegetation. This trail does not appear to be well used.
Total area approximately 1746m2
Site 14
261 meters long and 3 meters wide section of the Ponderosa Pine trail that is double
rutted from 10 to 40 cm and heavily infested with Spotted knapweed.
Total area approximately 783m2
Site 15
A 245 meters long and 3 meters wide steep'connector road' between the Doug Daws and
Red Tail Hawk trails. The whole trail is double rutted from 10 to 40 cm and heavily
infested with Spotted knapweed and Dalmatian toadflax. The weeds are moving into the
healthy grassland area around the trail section.
Total area approximately 735m2
Site 16
A single track trail 492 meters long. Heavy infestations of Spotted knapweed and
Dalmatian toadflax are found along the top 150 meters of the trail and through out the
area. The middle section widens to 10 meters for a steep 50 meter pitch. The bottom 100
meters is a braided network of single track. This area is beginning to exhibit water
erosion. However, this trail is quite well used and attempts have been made to close it in
the past. The area surrounding this trail is healthy grassland. However, Dalmatian
toadflax and Spotted knapweed are starting to appear along the trail edges.
Total area approximately 738m2
Site 17
An old 213m road off the Ponderosa Pine trail that is heavily infested with Spotted
knapweed and Dalmatian toadflax.
Total area approximately 639m2
Site 18
A small 87m mountain bike trail off the Deer Run trail. This area is generally healthy
grasslands.
Total area approximately 65m2
Site 19
An old road 575m long. This area is densely infested with Dalmatian toadflax and some
Spotted knapweed. The road is unvegetated.
Total area approximately 1725m2
