Grades 3-6 Summer Reading Activities
Each student is required to complete the following activities which will enhance their summer
reading experience:
• Read at least three books from the attached Summer Reading List.
• Read at least one of the three books to a parent or guardian.
• Keep a reading log.
• Complete two additional activities from the list below and submit to your 2011 – 2012
homeroom teacher.
• Complete Accelerated Reader Quizzes by September 2011 on the books read during the
summer.
Grades 3-6 Independent Reading Activities
• Rewrite a scene and change the gender of the characters to show how they might act
differently.
• Write a character diary, writing at least five journal entries as if you are the main character
in the story. Write down events that happen during the story and reflect on how they
affected the character and why.
• Write a poem about one of the characters.
• Choose a character. Tell whether or not you would want him/her for a sibling, parent, or
friend (choose one) and why.
