Entrepreneurship involves developing new business ideas and strategies. This includes both starting a new business
venture and creating innovative approaches within an existing company. Without the benefits of an established
product, entrepreneurs must thoughtfully drive the growth of their idea while adapting to unexpected changes. No
entrepreneur is guaranteed to succeed, but the rewards of being at the forefront of a new concept can be huge.

• Creativity: Entrepreneurs must be able to look at things differently than they are currently viewed. This
perspective is what enables new ideas and approaches to emerge.
• Willingness to fail: Creating something new inherently involves a large risk that things won’t work out as
planned. Rather than be discouraged by that, entrepreneurs must look at each failure as an opportunity to grow.

• Patience: Thomas Edison famously tried thousands of different designs before discovering the light bulb for
which we know him today. Entrepreneurs must be willing to accept that the “big idea” doesn’t always come right
away and must keep working even when the results aren’t there.
THE ENTREPRENEURSHIP—INNOVATION PROGRAM AT MACOMB
Macomb’s Entrepreneurship—Innovation Program will help you develop the practical abilities you need to bring a
vision into reality. These include basic business skills like accounting, marketing and information technology, and
skills specific to entrepreneurship like developing a business plan and obtaining funding. You’ll have the opportunity to
interact with successful entrepreneurs and see how the lessons you learn in the classroom are applied in the real world.
EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK
With this skill-specific certificate and an Associate of Business Administration Degree, you’ll be qualified for jobs
including administrative specialist, administrative coordinator and office manager. Median salary for these careers is
$76,670 in Michigan with 9 percent projected growth in openings through 2024.
If you continue on and earn a bachelor’s degree in this field, you’ll be qualified for jobs including business manager,
general manager and store manager. Median salary for these careers is $93,150 in Michigan with 9 percent projected
growth in openings through 2024.
TRANSFER PATHWAYS TO A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN BUSINESS
ADMINISTRATION
The credits earned in Macomb’s Entrepreneurship—Innovation Program transfer to many colleges and universities
in Michigan.
If you intend to transfer and pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (BBA), speak with a Macomb
counselor or academic advisor as soon as possible after you have applied to Macomb in order to plan the best pathway.
