Pre IB U.S. 10 Summer Reading Assignment 2015 Ms. Ford Email: [email protected] ; [email protected] Required Text: You will need to purchase United States History Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination by John Newman and John Schmalbach. This is published by AMSCO, and I usually refer to it as the AMSCO book. We will use other texts in class, but I will provide you with a pdf version of those when needed. There are a few versions of the AMSCO book. Please make sure that you purchase the 2010 Revision. If you get a different version you will not have all of the needed information. Depending on whether you buy a new or used book, your cost should be between $14-20. I would buy the cheapest, best quality book. I don’t like it when people have already underlined in my book-it distracts me. And you will need to be able to annotate in this book. Summer Reading Assignment Hello! I’m very excited about getting to know you over the next year. I want our time together to be as productive as possible. As a result, this summer assignment is designed to do a few things: 1) Remind you of information you acquired during World History and evaluate that information to determine how it impacts settlement of the Americas. 2) Provide you with information about settlement of the Americas by European nations and determine how differences in settlement patterns effect the development of American society. 3) Present you with specific information about each of the thirteen colonies. Our in-depth study of American history will actually begin with the formation of the British colonies. 4) Require you to retain factual information as well as process information analytically in order to enhance classroom discussion once school begins. This assignment is not designed to be lengthy but rather to allow us to make the most of classroom time as soon as we start back to school in August.
