GALILEO WEEKLY NEWSLETTER April 1, 2017 Dear Galileo Families, Wow! We had such a busy week, and more fun is in store for the next few weeks! This week we have Chipotle Spirit Night on Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., Enrollment day for our new families on Thursday and our Elementary Assembly on Friday morning. Make sure you plan to attend Parent Workshop on April 11th and you won’t want to miss the Family Picnic on April 21st! We received news on Friday that Galileo will have a Seminole Deputy assigned to our school to enhance our security efforts and provide additional community support for our students and families. Please welcome Deputy Negri when you see him on our campus. Chipotle Spirit Night is MONDAY NIGHT!! Have a savory burrito or taco in the company of all of your Galileo friends on Monday Night! Lake Mary Chipotle sends Galileo 50% of every dollar you spend to support Galileo programs. Join us for food and fun at 4315 W. Lake Mary Blvd. See the attached flyer for details or check out your kiddo’s backpack for the one we sent home! CAMP GALILEO flyers all about summer camp offerings went home on Friday. We have 40 spots for each camp. See the attached flyer to read about all of the fun and sign up today on SchoolPay. FUN RUN UPDATE Please keep working on collecting your pledge money for FUN RUN! We ask that all money is turned in by Thursday! Your efforts are appreciated! MIDDLE SCHOOL AND 5TH GRADE PARENTS Please make sure your child completes and turns in their middle school course registration form to his/her first period teacher by Monday, April 3rd. We do our best to schedule students into top choices for electives. Please note that your child may be required to take an intensive math and/or reading course in place of one or both electives dependent on progress monitors and teacher recommendations. The following courses are year long courses: - Digital Art & Design - TV Production 1 & 2 - Spanish 1 - French 1 - Band (your student will need to provide their own instrument) Book Club with Ms. Bajgier will start up again on April 6th! We will meet every Thursday in April, immediately after school until 4:20 pm New members are welcome! Please have your child come see Ms. Bajgier to get a permission slip prior to our meetings. Your child must have a permission slip in order to stay for Book Club. We will be reading the book "A Dog's Purpose". Please get the book and have your child read chapters 1 and 2 before our first meeting. Digital, hardback, or paperback is fine. Parent Workshop Night is one of Galileo Families’ favorite evenings and one of the best chances to learn more about the Galileo Curriculum, offerings and programs, and strategies for promoting social emotional and academic growth in your child. Galileo Family Picnic is a memorable day for all kids and they would love for you to be there. Bring your blanket and a family lunch, and prepare to enjoy every second! Jeremiah’s Italian Ice will be sold and we will be graced by the presence of the Croom’s Steel Drum Band. You can even visit the Book Fair to get your books for summer reading! Pack a lunch or stop and get subs along the way, but do not miss this fantastic day! Bring: lunch, a blanket to sit on, and wear your sunscreen. You can bring your little kids and grandparents too, but please do not bring family pets:). Calling all Talent! Galileo will have a talent show on May 24th for 2nd - 5th grade from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. andMay 25th for middle school from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Auditions will take place the week of May 1st. Want to Have Your Next Birthday Party on the Galileo Playground? The Galileo Playground is the perfect place to host your child's next birthday! From the Yearbook committee: If you haven’t met your 20 hours of volunteer time yet, and have basic computer skills, access to a computer and don’t mind playing around with easy software, then we need you! Galileo Student Government The Galileo Student Government is kicking off the Pasta 4 Pennies campaign on Monday, March 27th and it will run through Friday, April 14th. We are doing this to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This money will be spent helping aid thousands of children and adults in the fight against cancers, such as Leukemia. We will gladly accept any donation of change or coins, cash, please no checks. The class that raises the most money will receive a pasta party provided by Olive Garden. Please send us the following items for CP -Glass jars of any kind (baby food, pickles, jam, mason jars, etc.). *reused is best! -masking tape -chalkboard paint -sponge paintbrushes -herb seeds (oregano, rosemary, mint, etc.) MIDDLE SCHOOL HYGIENE EFFORT Looking for an easy way to earn volunteer hours? Please help us with our Promoting Good Hygiene Habits project for middle school students. We need some help with the collection of small trial size items, including Chapstick with SPF 30 or more, sunscreen with at least SPF 30, neutral scent deodorants, and more. Please consider helping us getting some of this stuff donated for this fantastic project. Ultimately, every middle school student will have their own hygiene kit.
