AP Human Geography 2015-2016 Summer Assignment This summer assignment is designed to be very practical, get you organized for the course, and to start you off on the right foot in AP Human Geography. So here’s how you get started for the summer: Part I: Vocab (25 points) Print the list of the first 10 words of Unit I vocabulary words and define them using the AP Quizlet website www.quizlet.com (search for AP Human Geography) or the review material you purchase. For the vocabulary, you will fill in the definition of the word and then provide an example. The example needs to be a real world application of the definition or could be an explanation of an image/graph/visual. See the example provided below. The AP exam focuses on not only vocab and their definitions, but being able to identify or provide examples of the vocab term. Word Language Family Definition A group or collection of languages with a shared but distant origin. Example Indo-European is the largest language family Part II: Purchase Review Material – Pick ONE (25 points) 1. 5 Steps to a 5 AP Human Geography (Most Current Edition Preferred) Either of these books is fine. It is a matter of preference. The key to using the review material is to read them along with what we are learning in class. OR 2. Barron’s AP Human Geography (Most Current Edition Preferred) Part III: World Maps (25 points) Using an online atlas, you will create and label 2 world maps. Map 1 – use the world map provided to label the following regions. Your map must include a title, a key, and label each region with a different color. Neatness and organization count. o Regions: East Asia, Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia & North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, North America, Latin America, Europe, Russia & Eurasian Republics, and Australia & Oceania Map 2 – label the following “Impact Countries” that we will study more in depth throughout the course. o Asia: China, India, Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan, Russia, Vietnam, Iraq, Pakistan, Israel, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh o Europe: Italy, United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, France, Belgium o Africa: Sudan, Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Gabon, Somalia, Rwanda o North America: Canada, United States, Mexico o Latin America: Brazil, Cuba, Colombia, Chile, Peru Part IV: Notebook organization (25 points) Put together a 3 ring binder notebook (minimum 1 inch) for AP Human Geography.
