„ Renewable energies and agricultural economics – Same difference
or two different pairs of shoes? “
Whereas research in the field of agricultural economics has a long lived tradition in economics, the
research focus on renewable energy has only been evolving in the recent decades. The production of
goods in agriculture heavily relies on weather, location and sometimes state intervention in the form
of subsidies. For the good electricity that is generated from renewables, all these factors also play a
major role.
The thesis should therefore take a closer look at similarities and differences in both fields. This
analysis can be undertaken for different areas of research. We encourage students to come up with
an area of interest for a detailed analysis. The focus should be set on gaining insights from
agricultural economics that could also be transferred to the field of renewable energies.
