X931-03-02 Rev 204V9317H Introduction The information in this instruction manual covers the installation and maintenance of the V9317H Series of Environmental Housings. This unit should be installed by a qualified technician using approved materials in accordance with national, state and local codes. Read these instructions through completely before attempting installation. Vicon’s Model V9317H Series of compact, weatherproof housings is designed for smaller outdoor CCTV applications. Two side-latches provide easy access, and a weatherproof seal protects the camera/lens assembly from moisture. A latch with a loop is provided for a padlock (not supplied). The V9317H accommodates CCTV camera and lens combinations of up to 12.0 inches (305 mm) in length. The V9317H is available in six versions. All versions of the housing include a protective sunshield and a blower. The V9317HC-SB is created specifically for those installations that do not require a heater. This version does include a factory-installed 120-to-24 VAC camera transformer. A 230 VAC version, Model V9317HC-SB-230 (with transformer) and a 24 VAC version, Model V9317H-SB-24, are also available. The V9317HC-SHB includes the transformer plus a 120 VAC heater. The V9317HC-SHB-230 includes a transformer and a 230 VAC heater. The V9317H-SHB-24 includes a 24 VAC heater. Model V9317H is used throughout this manual to refer to all versions of the housing unless specifically stated otherwise. The housings with heaters are equipped with two pad-type (strip) heaters, totaling 60 watts of heating power. A thermostat automatically turns the heaters on when the temperature drops to 68° F (20° C) and turns them off when the temperature rises above 80° F (27° C). The V9317H withstands winds up to 80 mph with outside temperature ranging from -30 to 120° F (-35 to 49° C). The blower in the housings is thermostatically-controlled to activate when the temperature in the housing rises above 90° F (32° C) and automatically turns off the blower when the temperature falls below 80° F (27° C). The blower circulates and directs airflow across the window to prevent fogging. The V9317H housing and protective sunshield are constructed from heavy-duty aluminum with a light-gray finish. The sunshield provides long-term protection from UV radiation and corrosion. The viewing window is made of glass for long lasting transparency. All materials are corrosion-resistant or stainless steel hardware. X931-03-02 Rev 204V9317H Introduction • 1 NOTES 2 • Introduction X931-03-02 Rev 204V9317H Installation Unpacking and Inspection All Vicon equipment is tested and inspected before leaving the factory. It is the carrier’s responsibility to deliver the equipment in the same condition as it left the factory. Inspection For Visible Damage Immediately inspect the cartons upon delivery. Make a note of any visible damage on all copies of the carrier’s freight bill. Make sure the carrier’s agent (the person making the delivery) signs the note on all copies of the bill. If the agent does not have claim forms, contact the carrier’s office. Inspection For Concealed Damage As soon as possible after delivery, unpack the unit and inspect it for concealed damage. Do not discard the carton or packing materials. If the unit is damaged, contact the carrier immediately and request forms for filing a damage claim. Make arrangements for a representative of the carrier to inspect the damaged equipment. If the equipment must be returned for repair, follow the Shipping Instructions at the end of this manual. Mounting the Housing Be sure the area around the selected location is clear of obstacles (such as steel beams, headers, pipes, electrical wiring, etc.) which would interfere with the mounting of the housing and that the location can support the combined weight of the entire camera/housing system. Video, sync, and power cables must be routed to the housing location. Refer to Figure 1 when installing the V9317H housing. There are seven mounting holes in the bottom of the housing’s mounting plate, which mate with a variety of Vicon pan-and-tilts, scanners, and mounts. Select the holes that best mate with the mount used. The mounting foot is adjustable fore and aft for precise balancing. Use the Allen key provided to loosen the two (2) set screws to adjust the foot. Use a minimum of two (2) 1/4-20 bolts and lock washers (not supplied) to mount the housing (install bolts facing upward toward the housing). X931-03-02 Rev 204V9317H Installation • 3 Figure 1 Mounting Plate Dimensions Camera Installation 1. Disengage the two (2) side latches to open the cover. 2. Remove the camera mounting plate from the housing by loosening the four (4) Phillips head screws used to secure the plate. Slide the plate off the screws using the key slot holes. 3. Mount the lens to be used on the camera according to the appropriate instruction manual. Note: When positioning the camera/lens combination, make sure that the lens is fully extended (the shortest focusing distance yields the greatest physical extension). Certain zoom lenses may have to be rotated 90° on the camera to fit into the V9317H. Caution: Maximum lens dimensions to fit the housing are width, 4.5 in. (114 mm) and height, 3.3 in. (84 mm); however, to assure a full picture, make sure the front optics of the lens are not larger than the clear window area (4.0 x 2.9 in., 102 x 74 mm). 4. Select the location in the camera mounting slot which allows installation of the camera/lens with 1/4-in. (6.4 mm) of space between the lens and the window. Then mount the camera to the mounting plate with the supplied 1/4-20 screw, flat washer and lock washer. 4 • Installation X931-03-02 Rev 204V9317H 5. Place the camera and plate back into the housing in a position where the lens just clears the window for the greatest angle of view. 6. Tighten the four (4) mounting plate screws to secure it in place. Wiring the Unit The V9317H housing is provided with one liquid-tight compression fitting and one ½-in. conduit fitting on the bottom (toward the back), which allow routing of the video, power and control cables to the inside of the housing. A wiring diagram is provided on the inside cover for reference. Note for 230 VAC installations only: A readily accessible disconnect device is required to be incorporated into the site wiring. 1. Loosen the compression fitting nut and route the cables for video and camera input power, and control (if used) through the fitting(s). Refer to Figure 2. 2. Strip off approximately 1.5 inches (40 mm) of the outer cable covering. Remove approximately 0.25 in. (6 mm) of insulation from the end of each conductor. 3. Connect the video, camera power, and lens cables (and control, if used) to the camera and lens. 4. Connect the input power wires to the proper terminals on the terminal board and tighten screws. Refer to Figure 2, Wiring Diagram. For 120 VAC and 230 VAC units, connect two (2) wires from the camera to TB1. Connect the branch ground wire to the ground lead with a wire nut. Route all power-limited wiring away from non-power-limited wiring. The wiring spacing between two different voltages (e.g., 120 VAC and 24 VAC or coaxial video) should maintain a distance of no less than 0.25 (1/4) in. throughout the housing. Refer to Figure 3. All wiring should be in accordance with the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70. 5. Pull the excess slack out of the wires and tighten the fitting nut(s). 6. Use an all-weather silicone sealant to fill the empty space or hole if the wire bundle does not completely fill the tightened compression fitting(s) or if only one fitting is used. 7. Close the cover and fasten the side latches. Use a padlock (not supplied) to prevent unauthorized entry. X931-03-02 Rev 204V9317H Installation • 5 Figure 2 Wiring Diagram 6 • Installation X931-03-02 Rev 204V9317H Operation Refer to the instruction manuals for the individual camera and lens for operation. Maintenance The housing needs no maintenance other than the occasional cleaning of the window, using plain soap and water. Do not use abrasive cleaners which scratch the window surface.
