Description
[11:06] <BigPhil> hey there! I just installed freenas 8.0.1 on a usb stick. I'm having problem getting some drives to be recognized....
the drives not recognized are plugged on 2xRocket 62x PCI-E hubs that came with the 2.5TB Western DIgital drives I hooked in the
machine.
[11:08] <BigPhil> anyone knows how I can get the system to recognize those? they are recognized when booting in the boot menu,
when freenas boots as well it lists drives up to 9 (8x 2.5TB + CD + usb stick), but either from the web admin or when choosing where
to install, there are 4 drives missing
[11:19] <jpaetzel> [[BigPhil]]: are there 4 drives on a controller per chance?
[11:20] <BigPhil> @jpaetzel I have 2 x rocket62x cards, each of these cards have 2 sata connectors (so 2x2 drives=4)
[11:20] <@jpaetzel> you have 12 drives total, on two controllers, right?
[11:21] <@jpaetzel> so there are 4 drives on the mobo, and then 4 each on two pci-e controllers?
[11:21] <@jpaetzel> and the system is seeing 8 of the 12 drives.
[11:21] <@jpaetzel> is that correct?
[11:22] <BigPhil> I have a p5wdh motherboard from asus. first the 4x drives not recognized on the sata cards, then there's 3 drives
on the onboard intel sata, 1 on jmicron . then there's a pata CD and the USB key
[11:23] <BigPhil> so 2 x 2 drives on the sata cards, 4 on the mobo. the 4 mobo drives are recognized, not the 2x2 from the cards
[11:24] <BigPhil> this would be the card (seen in the review on this page : http://www.desktopreview.com/default.asp?newsID=1254 )
[11:28] <@jpaetzel> ok, so it looks like you need 3rd party drivers for them.
[11:34] <BigPhil> jpaetzel: that's what I thought that I needed some specific drivers but looking around, all I can seem to find is
highpoint-tech's site saying it should be supported natively in freebsd :/
[11:34] <@jpaetzel> [[BigPhil]]: I don't see any mention of a 62x on their site, is that a specific card, or just the last digit marked out?
[11:38] <BigPhil> jpaetzel: well it says 62x on the card, but on the back there's a sticker looks like the proper part number is rocket
620wda http://www.gamedude.com.au/prod_show.php?art_no=sataHProcket_62x
[11:39] <elr90> That explains the www-data part... So I change that to executer:executer on the nfs server ?
[11:41] <@jpaetzel> [[BigPhil]]: ok, can you capture a pciconf -lv from the CLI and create a ticket for this issue at
support.freenas.org? We'll have mav sort it out.
there you go!

#1 - 06/30/2011 07:48 PM - Alexander Motin
Patch for this controller just committed to FreeBSD 9-CURRENT: http://svn.freebsd.org/changeset/base/223699 .
#2 - 06/30/2011 08:18 PM - Big Phil
ok thanks for the patch :)
I will be leaving the chat for the day, if possible I believe jpaetzel is supposed to send me a quick "walkthrough" on downloading the patch to freenas
and applying the patch. If I receive the info by tomorrow, when I get in the office I will apply the patch and follow up with you guys!
#3 - 07/06/2011 01:13 AM - Josh Paetzel
From the FreeNAS box, do the following:
# cd /tmp
# fetch http://download.freenas.org/ahci/i386/kernel.gz
Verify the checksum of the download:
# sha256 kernel.gz
SHA256 (kernel.gz) = 0cdc15dca8fd0b90c1f1239a7d5860328b612a9bd9a23902b0841f1e2fbf44c2
If that is the value you get, go ahead and install it:
# mount -uw /
# cp /tmp/kernel.gz /boot/kernel/
06/18/2017
3/4
# reboot
For amd64 arches replace the i386 with amd64
The checksum is:
SHA256 (kernel.gz) = 655af646a0ed18484e6e603a5db8c2d02fdf76f0e6a470f828b58bd60e8d43b3
