Good morning Sligo!
Teacher Appreciation Week is a week long celebration in the United States observed the first full week in May. We can do
this. Stallions, let’s put forth a very special effort in our attendance, behavior, class/home assignments to send a very special
appreciation for all of our kind teachers and staff. Again, today we dedicate this to all Sligo MS Staff:
On The Edge
Kristy Vernillion
I was on the edge trying to get through life, listened to my friend and started cutting
over two in a half years of cutting ; looking for attention from any one
a teacher was there willing to help
I was in the dump and well I got all pumped for a way to make it through life.
I found a way to make my life sweet, thanks to a sweet teacher who cared,
and for now on, I like my life for all the right reasons.
I live my life for the children of the world who are helpless and sick and want to be loved. Thanks to the special teacher who
cared for me.
Please govern yourself accordingly today and throughout the week by these morning announcements:

The Word for the week is: Allusion
-an indirect reference to some character or event in literature or history that enriches the meaning of a phrase, line, passage or title. Example: Karen’s jump shot reminds me of Michael Jordan. The reference to Michael Jordan means that Karen has a very good jump shot.

The Idiom for the Week is: ― If the Shoe Fits, Wear It!‖ Some students never clean up after art class. I’m, not mentioning names, but ―if the shoe fits, wear it.‖
Meaning: If a remark applies to you, you should admit that it is true.
Origin: This proverb comes from an older expression popular in the 1700’s. ―If the cap fits, put it on.‖ The ―cap‖ referred
to was a dunce cap. As the years went by, the ―cap‖ in the saying changed to ―slipper,‖ perhaps because of the popularity of
the story of Cinderella. A playwright in the early 1900’s wrote, ―If the slipper fits, wear it.‖ Later ―slipper‖ changed to
―shoe.‖ The idea is clear: Accept a comment that refers to you as you would wear a shoe that fits your foot.
In closing: The quote of the day is - Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear,
an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. All acts of kindness,
big and small, have a positive effect on others and yourself. Pass it on!
Please help us continue to recognize the acts of kindness – big and small – that are occurring throughout the week. Stop in to
Guidance to pick up leaves and flowers for the tree. And make sure to check the tree – you may already have a note thanking
you for your good deed!
Flag Salute
(Please stand for the pledge of allegiance to our country - America by reciting the Pledge Allegiance to the American Flag.)
