Registration
Students must complete and submit the Skills Competition registration package that is available through their
secondary school. Please contact your guidance or Technology Department head for more information and
where to submit your registration. There are a limited number of opportunities to compete, register as soon as
possible. Your secondary school will determine who will represent their school at the competition.
Prior to the Skills Competition
Safety is important at Loyalist College and we would request that all students review the personal protection
equipment requirements and other safety related information contained within the event scopes.
Upon Arrival on Competition Day
Students must arrive at Loyalist College between 8:15 - 8:40am, March 7, 2017.*
Upon arrival students will procedure to the Link Lounge for registration where they will receive a map of the
skills building, lunch voucher and directions for the Skills Competition.
Students will be escorted/guided to the location of their competition area and sign in.
Students will be given further instructions by the Chairperson at this time.
STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE THEIR COMPETITION AREA WITHOUT
PERMISSION FROM A JUDGE OR APPOINTED PERSON IN CHARGE OF THAT SPECIFIC
COMPETITION. STUDENTS WILL BE GIVEN SPECIFIC RULES FOR EACH COMPETITION.
SAFETY FIRST!
Supplies
Students will be expected to arrive with all materials requested in their scope for their competition including a
resume. Please see the scopes.
Any materials, tools or equipment supplied by Loyalist College must remain in the location of the competition.
Competition Starts
Each competition will start at 9:00am. Students should have all supplies with them at this time and be ready to
start. The first part of the competitions will conclude at lunch time.
Lunch
Lunch will be provided by Loyalist College (Pizza and drinks), lunch times will be determined on the day of the
competition for each event. Vegetarian and gluten free options will be available. Student should bring a lunch if
they have additional food concerns.

Competition Restarts/Finishes
All competitions will continue after lunch, finishing no later than 3:30pm.
Interviews
Interviews will be conducted with each competitor throughout the day by volunteers within the competition
area.
The interviewer will be looking for a clean, neat, well organized resume, communication skills, eye contact, and
answers to five interview questions.
Each interview will be approximately five minutes long and the interview is a part of your competition.
Closing Ceremony
The Closing Ceremony will begin at 4:00pm where winners will be announced; prizes and awards will be
presented. Parents are encouraged to attend in Alumni Hall. Depending on the number of people, the Closing
Ceremony location may change to another location.
Scholarships for Loyalist College will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each event. Some
conditions apply, please ask for details.
Conclusion
Transportation to Loyalist and return home following the competition is a student/school responsibility. Parking
is available at Loyalist.

*Alternate Date
If for any unforeseen circumstances the Skills Competition cannot be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, the
alternate date will be Wednesday, March 8, 2017. If there is inclement weather, please listen to your local radio
station for updates early in the morning.

Loyalist College Skills Competition 2017
We are pleased to announce that Loyalist College will host a Skills Competition in partnership with local
sponsors, community partners and area school boards.
DATE: Tuesday March 7, 2017
The day will provide students with the opportunity to:
 demonstrate their skills and knowledge in one of eleven competitions: Architectural Technology
and Design, Automotive, Baking, Character Animation, Electrical, Esthetics, Individual
Carpentry, Photography, Precision Machining, Two-Person Carpentry and Welding
 compete for medals, prizes and scholarships

Important information prior to the competition
1. In the event of inclement weather, the alternate date is Wednesday, March 8, 2017, same time. It is
important to ensure the student’s availability to participate on both dates. Efforts will be made to
contact students before 7:00 a.m. on event day if the weather causes a postponement. Please
monitor local radio stations for announcements.
2. Secondary schools will register student competitors with their Board’s Skills Competition Coordinator.
3. Signed Registration and Permission to Participate form and Media Consent/Release form must be
submitted before a student can be registered as a participant. Space is limited and filled on a
first come first served basis.
4. Loyalist College and the East Central Ontario Training Board will be working with area school
boards to register student participants for the Skills competition. No information will be maintained
or used by either organization following the competition.
5. Competitors must review the ‘scopes’ and other information for their competition to ensure they
have an understanding of the general expectations for the day as well as the skills and knowledge
that they may be asked to demonstrate at the competition.
Note: Scopes will identify if there are hand tools/equipment and personal safety equipment that they
must provide for themselves at the event.
6. Competitors must wear the safety equipment/clothing identified for the competition in which they are
competing.
