ABOUT US
The Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center is the premier children’s discovery center on the
Northshore. It is the perfect place for families with toddlers and children up to age thirteen to
learn and explore together in a safe and fun hands-on environment. The open and
interactive area is filled with unique, entertaining and educational areas to explore.
The Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center features innovative exhibits and displays that
children can touch, climb or move; an art center equipped for hands-on, original art
making; and a variety of art-based classes that will be conducted throughout the year.

SCHEDULING YOUR FIELD TRIP!
When planning your field trip to the Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center, your students will
have the opportunity to touch, explore, play and discover in each of our exhibit areas. Each
area is filled with interactive learning stations designed for exploration and discovery.
Group Rates:
In order to receive discounted admission rates, field trips must be scheduled at least 2 weeks
in advance and have a minimum of 20 children in attendance on the day of the trip. If less
than 20 children attend, the regular admission rate of $8.00 per person will be charged.
Please book your trip early; dates fill up quickly during the school year and summer. IF THE
FIELD TRIP IS CANCELLED WITHOUT GIVING THE LCDC AT LEAST A ONE WEEK NOTICE, THERE WILL
BE CHARGED A $50 CANCELLATION FEE.
Prices and group rates are subject to change without notice.
J Admission for individual students is $7.00.
J Two teachers per class are admitted free. Chaperones pay $7.00 each; to be paid to
the school. Parents who do not reserve with the group and show up the day of the trip
will be asked to pay full price admission of $8.00.
J A $50 deposit is required once the field trip is confirmed.
J Final payment is due the day of the field trip. All checks should be written to LCDC or
Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center. The school representative should come the day
of the trip with one check for all students and chaperones in attendance, plus any
food, if ordered.
J Membership cards, discount offers and/or free passes are not valid for field trip
admissions. Please share this with your parents!

The Discovery center can accommodate field trips on Tuesdays - Fridays: 10:00am – 4:00pm.

Discovery Center Capacity:
The Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center is prepared to handle groups up to 150 children at
one time during hours when we are open to the public. We invite groups larger than 150
students to contact us for special accommodations.
DISCOVERY CENTER GUIDELINES
Please review all discovery center guidelines with your students & chaperones prior to your
visit.
D irections: Follow all directions of the Discovery Center staff & volunteers.
I nteract: Adults should interact with children at all exhibits! Encourage children to ask
questions. Adult chaperones are to supervise the group assigned to them.
S hare: Please share with others and return items to their proper place.
C ell phones: Please refrain from cell phone use while in the Discovery Center.
O nly walking: Please only use your walking feet inside the Discovery Center.
V oices: Remember to use “inside voices” while inside the Discovery Center.
E xhibits: Be sure to take turns at all exhibits and treat the exhibits with care.
R espect: Always respect the Discovery Center property and report any exhibit
maintenance issues to staff members.
Y ummy: Please only eat or drink in the party room area and refrain from chewing
gum.
Remember to take all artwork and personal belongings with you. The discovery center
is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Membership cards, discount offers and/or free passes are not valid for field trip

Cancellation Policy
Please provide 14 days advanced notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your trip.
All deposits are non-refundable. If you have not paid your $50.00 deposit, and do not show
up for the scheduled field trip, we do expect you to pay the $50.00. We staffed for your field
trip!
Gift Shop Purchases
Our gift shop carries an assortment of items, many priced under $5.00. Our wide range of
inexpensive gift shop items provides students with a great way to remember their visit to the
Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center. Teachers should decide whether or not to allow
students to visit the Discovery Center gift shop. An adult MUST accompany students while
they are in the gift shop to assist children in choosing items within their price range.
Sick Child Policy
If a child (or adult) is too sick to attend school or work, they are too sick to visit the Louisiana
Children’s Discovery Center. In order to provide a healthy, germ-free environment for all
Discovery Center guests, we ask that you refrain from visiting the LCDC if you have or display
any of the following symptoms:
Pink eye (conjunctivitis)
Fever
Diarrhea
Severe cold with sinus drainage
Impetigo (infectious skin disease which shows up as small pimples that turn into red
blisters in a circular pattern)
Vomiting
Lice
Strep throat (child must be on antibiotics for 24 hours before coming to the discovery
center)
Any of the following childhood diseases: measles, mumps, rubella, roseola, chicken
pox or any other transmittable disease. Children with chicken pox may not come into
the Discovery Center until all of the sores are crusted and there are no new eruptions.
The admissions desk has the right to deny Discovery Center entry based on their observation
of the above illnesses.

Lunch Options at the Discovery Center
You do not have to eat lunch at the discovery center, BUT if you do choose to,
we’ve got options for you. You may bring school lunches or bagged lunches
from home.
Though we do not have our own café, we have partnered with several local
businesses to offer you easy lunch options. Please see your options below and
select one business for your lunch. Please use the supplied order form and
attach to your permission slips to secure your lunch orders. Five (5) business
days before your field trip, please return your lunch order to the LCDC via fax or
email. When you arrive for your field trip, lunch will be ready for you! Please let
us know if you are interested in learning more about these lunch options!

1. Chick-fil-A (nuggets or sandwich, chips, cookie or fruit) (see order form)
2. Subway (variety of sandwiches for students & adults including chips,
cookie & drink) (see prices on order form)
3. Pizza (large pizzas (10 slices), pepperoni or cheese for $10.00 each
plus $1 per person to include a drink.
Order forms for each of the lunch choices are below on separate pages.
Please select your choice and check off your lunch option on your reservation
form. After you’ve received permission slips from parents, submit your lunch
order to us.

To make your reservation, please call the LCDC at 985-340-9150. Please book your trip as
early as possible so that we may accommodate you with the date that best fits your
schedule.
! Select chaperones for the trip and plan an orientation meeting for the chaperones
using the Discovery Center Guidelines and this checklist.

! Children should wear school identification and tennis shoes while visiting the LCDC.
The Discovery Center IS open to the public during field trips. We recommend a name
badge with the school name, grade level & school phone number.
! Inform bus drivers and/or car drivers of plans for dropping off children (drop-off is at
the front entrance on N. Cypress Street). The LCDC does not supply parking for buses.
For passenger vehicles, there is a parking lot adjacent to the building, which may be
accessed from the alley entrance on E. Charles Street.
! Discovery Center staff will greet you and bring your group into the theater for a brief
orientation. Your group leader should visit the admissions desk with payment after your
group has entered the center.
! Payment must be completed on the day of your visit. Acceptable forms of payment
include: cash, checks made payable to the Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center (or
LCDC), Visa, MasterCard or Discover. One person paying for all attendees is
requested.
! Adults should interact with children at all exhibits! Encourage questions, do not just
give answers. Follow the child’s lead. Allow them to set the pace.
! If children are going to make gift shop purchases, please remember that:
• Chaperones must accompany children in the gift shop
• Chaperones need to assist children in choosing items within their price range
