August/September 2015
Dear Parents,
Our goal at Euclid Middle School is to help every student find success as they become strong learners and strong leaders. We challenge students to grow personally,
socially and academically in a safe environment. Our Euclid Accountability Committee and the Euclid Teachers have affirmed the Core Values of Challenge, Community, Choice and Character. These are essential qualities of a middle school
program in order for teenagers to develop into successful adults.
WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) is a nationally recognized program designed to link
qualified 8th grade students with incoming 6th grade students. This program intentionally fosters a climate of caring for one another and promotes leadership for 8th
graders within the school. Our 8th graders will be expected to lead the school and
create a positive community. 6th grade students are invited to a “Welcome to Euclid” get together beginning promptly at 8am and ending at 11am on August 13th
in the gym.
“Every Student a Leader” is a one-of-a-kind program designed specifically for
middle school students to help them practice leadership and character qualities in a
supportive environment. This leadership opportunity is one of the intentional programs we’ve developed in order to make every student successful in middle school.
Students are challenged to earn all 7 Falcon Feathers and master the 7 Habits of
Highly Effective Teens. You can locate the Falcon Feather Worksheets on the front
page of our website.
Teachers are preparing to challenge students academically. Even during the
summer months, teachers participate in activities designed to master material for the
Colorado Academic Standards and incorporate the content into their lessons. They
will continue to use Professional Learning Communities (PLC) during late start days
to develop specific academic units.
Teachers are intentional in how they create great lessons, a great classroom and a
great school. On August 27th at 6:30 pm you will have an opportunity to hear from
them first hand during Back To School Night. This is a key evening in our effort to
communicate directly to you about your student’s upcoming academic year. We
hope you will be able to attend.
In a few short weeks we will begin again the journey of challenging our students to
the highest of standards while caring for their hearts. I’m looking forward to another
great year at Euclid.

Student Services
Student Services welcomes you to a new school year.
"Student Services" is the term used to designate the
variety of services and support systems provided for
students, parents, teachers and the community that Euclid
counselors provide on a regular basis. Please continue to
contact your CORE team counselor as your needs dictate
at 303-347-7810.
Vaccination Information
Requirements for 6th and 7th graders. Colorado law
requires that the Colorado Department of Public Health
and Environment Certificate of Immunization be
completed and provided to your child’s school. The law
requires documentation of immunizations or a signature
on file exempting the child for medical, religious, or
personal reasons (C.R.S. 25-4-903).
Immunizations
EIGHTH GRADERS must have their Tdap, 2nd
Varicella, Hepatitis B series of three shots and MMR
completed before going to ninth grade.
Some SEVENTH GRADERS still need to complete
their Tdap, 2nd Varicella and Hepatitis B series of three
(3) shots. Please keep the plan you formulated in August
2014 up to date. All seventh grade students must have
their second MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) before
the 2015-2016 school year schedule pick-up in August
2015. Communicate with Mrs. Keely in Student Services
(303-347-7810) as you receive each shot.
A mailing was sent out in May if your student is not up to
date on their immunizations, or if you have not provided
written proof to Euclid Student Services.
ATTENTION PARENTS OF PRESENT 6th GRADERS:
Colorado law requires Tdap (Tetanus-diphtheriapertussus) vaccine and Varicella (chicken pox). Varicella
is required or if a student has already had the chicken
pox, notation should be made on shot record by physician
prior to entering sixth grade. Written proof of this
immunization may be submitted to Student Services in
August 2015.
If you do not have a regular family physician, you
can call Tri County Health at 303-761-1340 for
information about immunizations. 1-800-757-3999 is
a centralized number for making appointments for
immunizations with Tri County Health. If you have
any questions, call the Student Services Office at 303
-347-7810.
Eighth Grade Schedule Information
Eighth graders: You will be able to pick up your schedule
on August 12th. Please understand that the counselors
have made every effort to build your schedule according
to your course requests. Please remember that your second
semester electives will not appear on your schedule.
Several of you signed up to be an assistant for a teacher or
an office. If your student assistantship does not appear on
your schedule, you are more than likely scheduled to be
with the teacher/office second semester.
Occasionally, it is not possible to honor all of your
requests. In these cases we have given you your alternative
choice. If you do not receive your first or alternate choice
(as indicated on your orange registration card), then you
may wish to see a counselor to discuss the possibility of a
schedule change.
Sixth Grade Schedule Information
Sixth grade schedules available on August 12th, will
include core placement, music, physical education and
exploratory classes. Most sixth grade schedules will show
a placement in a math class. Students will be placed based
on fifth grade information, teacher recommendations,
parent input, MAP information, and past math
performance. Please see the math department letter in the
June newsletter for more information.

Parent Conferences
Counselors want to remind parents of sixth grade students
that the procedure for attending conferences at Euclid may
vary considerably from the elementary school your
student attended. Conferences are held twice in the fall
and twice in the spring. The first scheduled conferences in
the fall are from 4:30 to 7:30 P.M. on Thursday,
September 17. This Academic Risk conference will focus
primarily on those students who are having difficulty
facing the challenges of adjustment to middle school. All
core and exploratory teachers will be available for 20
minute scheduled conferences from 4:30 to 7:30 PM. The
second opportunity will be on Wednesday, October 14
when scheduled conferences are from 4:30 to 7:30 PM
and again on Thursday, October 15 from noon until 3 PM.
Arena conferences will be Thursday, October 15 from
4:30 to 7:30 PM. Teachers will be available for a threehour block of time and parents may talk with staff on a
first come first served basis. Some indicators of a need for
a conference may include your student's comments about
his/her adjustment to middle school, conversations parents
may have had with teachers, or parents may desire a
conference as a part of the transition to middle school.
You will be notified of the date of designated conferences
through the newsletter and a memo that is sent home with
your student.
All parents are welcome to attend conferences and each
family may request a conference when it seems
appropriate. However, a conference for every sixth grade
student is not routinely scheduled in the fall as you may
have experienced in elementary school.
Parents are welcome to request a conference with a
teacher(s) at any time during the school year. This type of
informal conference can be arranged by calling the
appropriate CORE counselor. The counselor will
coordinate and schedule the conference in a timely
manner. Parents can also call a teacher(s) directly and
schedule an appointment.
Clubs…Activities…Athletics
There are many after school activities offered at Euclid.
Sixth graders indicate that they have difficulty knowing
how to learn about and participate in these after school
activities. All activities are announced in the daily
bulletin. There are also two bulletin boards in the
cafeteria that advertise after school activities: one has
information about athletics and the other has information
about clubs and activities. Also, the monthly newsletter,
The Falcon Flier, includes current information about all
after school opportunities at Euclid.
Community Resource Recommendations
Counselors receive many requests for community
assistance prior to the holiday season. Some of the
opportunities are for InterFaith Community Services,
Santa Claus shop, gift certificates for students and
holiday gift baskets. If you and your family could
benefit from one of these referrals, please call the
counseling office so we may put you in touch with these
opportunities. This would be extremely helpful to us as
we are not always aware of your needs. Please phone
303-347-7820 (Ms. Morris).
Change Of Address/Phone Number
If your student will be attending Euclid next year but you
have had a change of address or phone number, please
call Student Services at 303-347-7810 so that we may
update our records. Thank you!

Where Everyone Belongs - WEB
School and Student Safety
Attention all 6th grade students:
7:30 am arrival and 3:00 pm departure
The sixth grade WEB orientation will be Thursday,
August 13 from 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM in the gym.
This is an optional activity but we encourage all 6th
grade students to attend.
Students often come early or stay late at school for supervised activities. In order to maintain a safe and orderly environment, we ask that students only remain
after school under teacher or parent supervision. The
cafeteria and breakfast program is supervised beginning
at 7:30 am. It is requested that all students waiting for
a ride home be picked up by 3:00 pm unless they are
staying for an after school supervised activity.
The following activities will be part of the orientation
► A short assembly welcoming everyone to Euclid.
► Break out groups where students get an opportuni-
ty to meet other 6th graders and 8th grade WEB
leaders.
► Question and answer session (in their small
groups) to ask anything they are worried about,
concerned about, or just curious about.
If you need student supervision outside of the school
day, the Littleton YMCA offers a Before and After
School Program. The YMCA will transport students to
and from Euclid. For more information on that program
call 303-797-9622.
► An entire school tour. They will see classrooms,
locate the bathrooms, and the gym.
► A short closing assembly that reiterates how excit-
ed we are that they are here!
► Any questions please contact Stacie Richardson at
Euclid after August 10th.
There is no bus transportation on this day. Parents
may drop their students off by 8:00 AM and pick them
up at 11:00 AM.
8th Grade Training: WEB Leaders
August 10th 8:00 - 11:00 AM
August 12th 8:00 - 11:00 AM
August 13th 7:00 - 11:30 AM
If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Richardson at [email protected]

7:00 PM in the gym. Invitations will be sent via Infinite
Campus the middle of August. The Honor Roll list will
be posted by the Main Office in August.
Honor Students earn a 3.5 grade point average or above
and no P’s, D’s or F’s. The celebrations are held in
September and January. A Letter of Achievement is
sent to students with 3.0-3.49 GPA.

alcoholic beverages, tobacco, or drugs, displaying
gang symbols, or using defamatory or vulgar, offensive or obscene language, design, or message.

CORE Placement
When your child receives their schedule for the 20152016 school year you will be notified of their CORE
placement. The criteria for placing students at Euclid
Middle School are:
 The Student Learning Profile (SLP). This was in
the April newsletter.
 Teacher recommendations
 Balance in gender
 Balance in gifted education
 Balance in special education
 Balance of academic needs
 Test results (MAP, CSAP) identifying individual
needs, and
 Budget and staffing considerations.
Counselors and administration spend a phenomenal
amount of time to achieve balance in all these areas. It
was also very important to make the Student Learning
Profile available to all parents. The information you
provided on your child, as well as any notes you wrote,
gave tremendous assistance in the CORE placement of
your child.
Page 9, August/September 2015
Check Policy
Littleton Public Schools (LPS) uses Global Payments
Check Recovery Services to facilitate the collection of
returned checks due to non-sufficient funds (NSF) and
closed bank accounts. Returned checks issued to LPS
will reach Global Payments approximately 30 days
from the date on which the check was written.
Please note the following:
Non-sufficient funds check – In most cases your personal bank will have notified you of this returned
check. You will have received this notification prior to
our receipt at LPS of the original returned check. You
are encouraged to contact the recipient (school / department / program) and make arrangements to settle the
amount due. Settlement of the check prior to our submission of the check to Global Payments is your only
opportunity to avoid the collection process and fees.
Closed account check – Although every effort is made
to deposit checks within two weeks of receipt by LPS,
please check with your bank to ensure that every check
written has cleared prior to closing an account. Our
staff will be happy to assist you in determining the status of a check on an account you anticipate closing.
The collection process is similar to the one used to collect returned checks for local retailers. The key steps in
this process are:
1. The returned check will be entered into the Global
Payments data bank. This will affect the ability of
the check writer to pay with checks at local retailers.
2. Subsequently, a Global Payments representative will
attempt to contact the check writer by phone and/or
by mail to make arrangements for payment of the
returned check plus a fee (minimum fee of $40.00).
3. After 45 days, Global Payments may report the returned check to all three major credit bureaus.
4. After 60 days, Global Payments may opt to litigate
to recover face value of the check plus collection
fees.
If you have questions, please contact our bookkeeper at
303-347-7801. Thank you for your cooperation.

LPS Student Code of Conduct is Online
The Littleton Public Schools Student Code of Conduct is online. Easily accessible links to an online Code of Conduct
will be available on each school website and the district website. Families will be able to print it out at home if they
wish, or they can choose to simply access it online.
Many school districts have moved to an online Student Code of Conduct as a way to save money and use less paper. In
the past, LPS printed more than 20,000 copies of the booklet each year.
Printed copies of the Student Code of Conduct will still be available in each school and for parents upon request .
