Stage Set for 8th Annual Women’s Colleluori Classic at Hofstra on 9/26
Hempstead, NY – On Saturday, September 26th the HEADstrong Foundation in partnership with Hofstra University
Athletics will present the 8th Annual Women’s Nicholas Colleluori Classic at Hofstra University. The event has become a
fall tradition on campus in effort to raise cancer awareness and funds to support the HEADstrong Foundation. This year
the event will feature 15 collegiate women’s programs including: Adelphi University, Binghamton University, Central
Connecticut State University, Hofstra University, Hofstra Alumni, Iona College, Le Moyne College, Long Island University
Brooklyn, Long Island University Post, Manhattan College, New York Athletic Club, Siena College, Stony Brook University,
UMASS Lowell and Wagner College, who will come together to face-off against cancer.

Student philanthropy is at the center of this special event with each of the participating teams hosting fundraisers on
their respected campuses to assist the goal. Additionally, each player will take the field wearing HEADstrong’s iconic
lime green shoelaces to promote awareness for the cause. HEADstrong will honor heroes and their families at the event
presenting grants and gifts from the organization intended to improve their quality of life. HEADstrong President and
Nick’s Mom Chery Colleluori will also present the prestigious Nicholas Colleluori Award to a member from each program
whose contributions both on and off the field are transforming the landscape of their represented program.
In addition to a great day of lacrosse, the HEADstrong Foundation™ will be on-site sharing their mission and selling
awareness merchandise. There will be plenty of activities to keep fans and spectators entertained all day. Proceeds
from the WNCC will help to fund essential programs and services offered by the HEADstrong Foundation to improve
quality of life for cancer patients and their families.
“Over the years we have witnessed some of the most amazing acts of kindness, sportsmanship and compassion at the
Women’s Nicholas Colleluori Classic. To this day, I get chills thinking about Catholic University’s Tori Neill emotional and
inspirational comeback after she scored her first goal after returning to the playing field after battling Hodgkin’s
Lymphoma or the support that Yale women’s lacrosse displayed toward Hofstra’s own Jillian Geysen as they
accompanied her to chemotherapy to assure her that she was not alone. The meaning and significance of this event
goes far beyond the competition on the playing field and defines all that makes the sport of lacrosse so special. On
behalf of the HEADstrong Foundation™, the Colleluori family and our founder, Nicholas, we wish to extend our sincere
appreciation to Hofstra University Athletics for their continued commitment to supporting our Nick’s vision. Special
thanks to Shannon Smith and Michael Bedford for taking this event to unprecedented heights. We wish to also thank all
of the teams participating this year. We are looking forward to an incredible day of inspiration in support of all of those

HEADstrong™ is an athletic rooted organization that serves the cancer community by granting direct financial assistance
to those financially impacted as a result of the disease, by providing complimentary long-term housing and amenities for
those traveling to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for cancer related treatments through Nick’s House™, by funding
innovative cancer research through the Nicholas E. Colleluori Lymphoma research fund, by serving family meals and
offering outlets of entertainment, by providing fresh groceries to patients being discharged from lengthy hospital stays,
by delivering comfort kits to newly hospitalized patients preparing for treatment or transplant, and by lending an arm of
support through their peer to peer advocacy group.
The blueprints for the Foundation were conceptualized by Nicholas “HEAD” Colleluori in 2006, from his hospital bed
while he underwent treatment for non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which ultimately claimed his life. Today, Nick’s vision is
being fulfilled through the relentless efforts of his family, athletes and supporters across the country uniting in the fight
against cancers.
