Virginia Beach 4-H Junior Camp
August 7-11, 2017
Residential 4-H camping provides opportunities not generally found at home for millions of youth each
year in the United States. For many children, the fond memories that 4-H camp provides last a
lifetime.
4-H camp provides a live away from home experience for boys and girls ages 9-13. It’s an exciting
educational opportunity for hands-on learning using the outdoor environment as a laboratory.
Virginia Beach 4-H Camp is held at Airfield 4-H Center – 285 acres located 70 miles west of Virginia
Beach off Route 460 in Wakefield, VA. Campers stay in climate-controlled lodges that include eight
bunk beds and a private bathroom in each room.
Well-trained counselors and counselors-in-training help provide supervision at all times. Campers are
grouped with no more than eight (8) to a room. Professional 4-H Extension staff, adult volunteers,
camp staff and resource people provide instruction for all camp classes. There is a registered nurse
or EMT on staff at the 4-H Center at all times. Certified lifeguards provide swimming classes and free
swims. Safety of the campers is always primary for the staff.
Campers participate in morning camp classes and have various activities scheduled for the entire
afternoon. Campers register for three classes for the entire week. Some examples of the more than
20 camp classes offered include: leather crafts, swimming, canoeing, fun with duct tape, fun with
foods, animal science, performing arts, archery, riflery, programs (i.e., team challenges, swim
Olympics, talent show) and nightly campfires are the highlight of the camp week. In short, 4-H Camp
is designed to meet the needs and interests of the 4-H camper.
The $330.00 fee includes: lodging, meals, snacks, supplies, camp T-shirt, and transportation from the
Virginia Beach 4-H Office, 2449 Princess Anne Rd. (Municipal Center, Bldg. 14), to and from camp. A
$165.00 non-refundable deposit is required with each pre-registration form.
The pre-registration deadline is May 24, 2017, or until Camp is full. Register early! DO
NOT wait until the May 24th deadline. Camp fills up quickly and there may not be
space when the deadline approaches. Make check or money order payable to:
4-H Camp Fund.
Cancellation Policy: Cancellations must be made in writing and received no later than
June 5, 2017 to receive your payment less the $165 non-refundable deposit. After
June 5, 2017, you will receive half of the amount previously paid, less the $165 nonrefundable deposit. No refunds will be given after July 5, 2017. All refunds will be
issued approximately four weeks after 4-H Junior Camp.
